OT,

The wife and I are going to Aruba for 10 days in February for a vacation at the Ritz-Carlton full of sun, surf, and sex(hopefully). For OTers that have been before, should we get a rental car (Jeep) or just cab it to places? Any can't miss restaurants on the island?

How much of a dick head are you to have to take your wife to Aruba to score a little dirty leg?

Aruba is a place I'm considering for one of my vacation spots here soon.

Would you be more comfortable and part of the conversation if I asked for the hot spots in Branson, Myrtle Beach, or Gatlinburg?

I was a pretty big a-hole this year due to work. I saw her for about a total of 7 days from mid-September to Dec 7th.

You know I'm just yanking your chain

Funny enough, I've lived in MO for over two years now and still haven't made it down to Branson

Hope y'all enjoy Aruba, though

Which part of MO? I lived in Joplin for a year back in 06. Interesting town.

West central. Stationed at Whiteman AFB about an hour east of KC.

Used to go through Joplin all the time a couple years ago when I was still stationed in Oklahoma and wifey was here. Interesting town, indeed

we had a company trip in Aruba, stayed at the ritz as well. you don't need a car, there is shopping within a cab ride about $7 from what I recall, golf within $12 cab ride. There is a nine hole course that looks interesting, but we only played the 18 hole resort course - if you buy three rounds you get a discount.

Rent a vehicle. The island is only 20 miles long and is very safe so no issues there.

Just rent the jeep for a day and drive the perimeter of the island (on the beach, to the church, the wind farms, etc; get a 4x4). Take it out to the natural pool. Bumpy ride but it's worth it. Don't rent it the rest of your trip, just cab.

This is where I rented from. Best selection and price from what I could find. Easy to work with too.

ETA: added a few pics from our trip. Let me know if you want any other suggestions. Some other stuff we did: fly boarding, snorkel/scuba (the ship wreck was cool), bar crawl, some nice restaurants, etc.

I lived in Aruba for a little over a year for work. The best advice I can give is go to Baby Beach. It's a great place to relax and there's a nice little bar at Rodger's Beach (Right next to Baby Beach) that's not crowded and relaxing. I'd say get a car unless you just want to stay with the crowds around Palm and Eagle beaches. As far as restaurants, or can't miss things to do, Charlie's Bar in San Nicolas is great. The Red Light District is also in San Nicolas and isn't very discreet if your wife has a problem with that.

It has been 15 years since I have been there but you should follow Steakbomb advice on the 4 x 4 for a day. Fantastic drive down the rugged side of the island.

We had a great meal at a place called The Flying Fishbone. I would recommend it.

I went to Aruba with my wife but it was about ten years ago. I would get a jeep and not even think twice about it. All the sites are spread out over the entire island plus there are miles of trails that are great to drive. I remember there being a crap ton of good restaurants but none of the name come to mind. Just ask a local.

Just got back last week. It was a great vacation and would go back in a heartbeat. My back is still aching from the Jeep tour to the natural pond and natural bridge, that was some 4x4 country for sure. We stayed at The Renaissance Marina. Lots of traffic in that area. Grouper, Red Snapper and Barracuda was the best we ever ate.

make sure you find a good place for the locals and perma-vacationers to run a train on your wife
