Above the Law article

Tulane went up two spots to #52 (still really low from where that school has been previously). Loyola New Orleans at #138 (went up from being not ranked last year).

ETA: SULC is tied with University of La Verne at #190, St. Thomas is the bottom ranked school at #192. SULC is either the second or third worst law school IN THE NATION. Out of 192 schools. Taxpayers of Louisiana, I'd be outraged to be subsidizing a school that is literally at the bottom.

So when is LSU's upper level management going to be let go and replaced? LSU is literally 1 spot away from being a Tier 3 law school, what an embarrassment. I've seen the school as an undergrad and it seems to be a great institution. Wtf are the people in charge doing though. I know admissions play a role in these rankings, LSU Law should definitely reconsider what GPA and LSAT they want as their median.

I was really hoping for Georgetown to get kicked out of the T14 again this year.

LSU Law has had to start taking less qualified students because they need the tuition dollars. That's where the drop in the USNWR rankings is coming from. It's a good law school that provides a high quality education, but it doesn't have the highest quality students.

As usual, Tulane is the flagship.

BUT BUT BUT bar passage rates...

Is LSU really the 100th best law school in the country?

I think the question is, is there a real problem within the law center that is truly degrading the education, or should the admin work harder to manipulate the metrics used in the rankings?

It's easy to be the flagship when you have at least 2 schools providing you with good ballast.

1L class this year was 200 up from 179 for fall 2017.

So trending in the wrong direction if this is the solution.

Also this guy likely brought the ranking down LSU Law Student Arrested

USNWR is just ridiculous

I love that Emory dropped, but there isn't a firm or clerkship outside of Alabama that would value Alabama more than Emory.

Unless USNWR starting factoring in the "don't want to hire douchebags" component, in which case it makes more sense.

Above the Law used to do their own rankings based on firm reputation, landing jobs and landing high value clerkships, and it always seemed to be the most practical way to do it.

Anyone know LSU’s ranking prior to the big changes in 2000 or so?

I love how UGA is literally one rank behind Emory now. That tuition gap is becoming less practical if you have a small scholarship or have to pay sticker.

Being a higher level academic school does not equate to being the flagship.

I don't think many people deny Tulane is a better school (for most programs). When it comes to law school, I always was told that LSU was the best place to go if you wanted to practice in Louisiana, and Tulane was the better option if you wanted to practice elsewhere. Which makes sense.

LSU had higher bar passage rates in 2018 and a 93% job placement in the last batch of stats and fell 12 spots

Makes sense.

The tuition gap honestly never made any sense anyway for those who wanted to practice in Atlanta. Even years ago the advice was always that it made sense only if you wanted to practice in the Mid-Atlantic region.

I think they take admissions from previous year into consideration. If you're taking in people with sub-3.5 GPAs and low 150s LSAT scores, expect your rankings to tank.

Definitely. Though if you were top 25% plus something like law review at UGA, you'd do well in the Mid-Atlantic too. Lemme guess, the tuition gap between Alabama and Samford is a joke too?
