Technically both of us are correct
quote:
Proton torpedoes were a type of explosive ordnance used throughout the galaxy. Upon impact with a target, the energy warhead would release clouds of high-velocity proton particles.
Using the Force, Luke Skywalker successfully destroyed the station using proton torpedoes during the battle.
But mine is the best answer, because Star Wars > Star Trek

I still don't get how a laser can replace a 30mm howitzer shell. Does shite just blow up when the laser hits?
In theory, a laser transmits a shite-ton on energy into whatever it hits and that will cause any combustible materials like fuel or ammo on that target to explode. The USAF experimented with putting lasers on planes and using them for missile defense, but the project was cancelled due to budget cuts.

This seems like a sound and necessary investment. Kudos Jarheads, well done.

This could also be a great anti-SAM countermeasure.
Laser weapon systems will negate any need for a 30mm cannon.
Strafing runs could be made from miles away as well meaning Time on Target and Time to Target improvements.

I played a role in the laser/C-130 design optimization project. Trust me, zapping african americans in ghettos is at the top of the list once the F-35's are outfitted. It's all we could talk about once the DoD money dries up.
