Actually you have 94 options that are superior to New Orleans....and that's only if you prefer to stay in the US.

I could live anywhere in the world, I choose to live in New Orleans.

ETA I don't choose to live here because of the food but I will admit, it's definitely a perk

Take the food out of NOLA, and it is Detroit

Memphis, Baton Rouge, Dallas, and Houston have better food than your average mid west shite hole.

I guess that is a personal preference though since many mid west shite holes outrank New Orleans.

If you can't see the fact that you're directly and indirectly impacted by all of those factors, then you may want to re-evaluate whether or not "poor education" affects* you.

It effects me about as much as that mosquito buzzing around my ear when I'm trying to sleep at night.

Personal feelings about a place aren't measured. New Orleans is outranked by Baton Rouge, Atlanta, Austin, and even Scranton, PA because it represents a poor value to outsiders. That's addressed in the article:

quote:

New Orleans is a metro region where it seems like everyone knows everyone; the area has one of the highest percentages (73.2 percent) of "homegrown" residents in the country. The population of New Orleans has risen steadily in recent years, nearly returning to pre-Hurricane Katrina numbers.

The city is full of people who don't want to move to a new, different city. The parochialism there is actually a huge drawback to outsiders. Of course the job market is horrible and the city is not the economic engine the state needs it to be.

New Orleans may do well with the intangible things to the people that grew up there (food, family, friends, etc), but it fails miserably everywhere else.

Or people that don't have a reason to move

Weird. Checked out the link on Washington DC (#4 on the list! ), and it says:

quote:

39.7 inches AVG ANNUAL RAINFALL

and

quote:

Seasonal Rainfall (Avgs) 3.1 in Winter 4.0 in Spring 3.8 in Summer 3.7 in Fall

Now, 3.1 + 4.0 + 3.8 + 3.7 = 14.6

So when do we get our other 25.1 inches of rain if not in winter, spring, summer or fall?

Rent average is 1600 though

That doesn't seem to make sense

List is garbage.

I actually hear great things about Fayetteville. Same with Des Moines at #9.

Greenville, SC at #29...I'd move there tomorrow if I could.

DC offers a lot for the high costs of living. I'm not surprised it is ranked very high.

Northwest Arkansas is actually very nice. Good schools, clean air, low costs of living, plenty of outdoor activities, etc.

Pretty sure he was pointing out that you make a statement saying poor education doesn't impact you, and in the same breath show you don't know the difference between "effect" and "affect"

Kind of like when people say "your an idiot"

Pretty self explanatory.. it overcame the low affordability score with high marks elsewhere. San Jose has pretty obvious positives along with that negative.

San Jose and the west bay area up to San Francisco is very nice. Incredibly expensive....but very nice.
