So what about the fans that have the flag tattoed on them where it's visible?

In another sweet gesture, I saw where Gordon is bringing back the rainbow color scheme he used to run. Coincidence?

#24 has been a silent symbol of gay pride for the last 20+ years. He can now finally come out of the closet.

NASCAR returns to Daytona International Speedway this weekend for its first stop in the South since the shooting at a South Carolina church brought the Confederate flag issue back into the national spotlight.

Earlier this week, track president Joie Chitwood III said DIS would give a U.S. flag to anyone turning in a Confederate flag as the venue wanted to celebrate America's birthday and ''we want to make sure (fans) wave our nation's flag.''

You know this is only going to cause more flags to come out.

Brain France is a moron and this will continue the sport's decline under his tenure. NASCAR has forgotten which crowd made them the 2nd most watched and attended sport in the country just a few short years ago.

I've said from the beginning that NASCAR "will ask" it's fans not to bring the flags for a PR move

but there isn't a chance in hell they are enforcing it at any track, especially in the south

That's like asking a bull to not charge at a red cape. Good luck with that.

does he not know his target audience? man....and how the hell did he get to be chairman of NASCAR?

He knows his audience very well actually. The problem is he has to walk a fine line here. NASCAR is a sport that is highly reliant on sponsorship dollars. Without sponsorships the sport will not exist. It does not matter if the stands at every race are filled to capacity if TV and sponsors drop the sport will die. The sponsors that fly their names on these cars and the very "Sprint Cup" series itself has tens of millions more non NASCAR customers than customers that are fans. If NASCAR steps up and says "hell yes" we support the flag well then you would see a wholesale drop of sponsorship dollars which would be a death blow to the sport. The same for Dale Jr. He has more investments than just racing and those sponsors I was talking about fund his own teams he owns as do they for the #88 Hendrick car he drives. Can you imagine how fast the National Guard and Mountain Dew would have dropped them if he had come out in support. It's just a shame that this has come to what it is. Just a week before that psyco devil kid killed those innocent old folks this wasnt even on anyones radar. Very unfortunate.

They're not morons for doing this. They know what they're doing and why. If you think this is a bad move, you may be too emotionally invested to be rational.

Agreed. Over under on Confederate Battle flags in the infield at Talladega? 50,000?

PR move and nothing more. NASCAR, the teams, and the tracks need the sponsorship money.

Nope. They're trying to keep sponsorships from leaving an already floundering sport. If they were to come out in support of the flag there would be wholesale drops of sponsorships no doubt. They're in a damn if we do and damn if we don't situation.
