Guy is batshit crazy and was selling scrips for BJ's. When asked by some cbs news station what his injuries were he said "everything". He will be a shite show on the stand though. If it ever comes to that.
Just because someone did done sleazy, scummy things, doesn't mean their rights disappear, and they're forever subhuman.

It's their plane. You don't have to like it.

Well, he was treated poorly, so paying for a free flight seems fair, but he will end up getting hundreds of thousands of dollars and he shouldn't
You think that much?
I mean united took a public position against him for a whole day. There were stories about him selling drugs for sex, etc.
Any lawyers want to comment on this?

Take that up with the Chicago Department of Aviation employee, not United.
I'm not taking it up with anyone. But yeah, they'll probably be getting sued too. But if it was me, needing to get back to work with fear of losing my job, I might've acted similarly after they let me board.

I'm not a fan of this cultural idea that anytime a person beaten unconscious, they can start suing everyone for a big payday.
You don't actually believe he was beaten unconscious so I don't know why you're saying that.

This is something Spirit Airlines would try to say.

Yeah, I think they will pay up and do it pretty quickly just to make it go away.
Like I said, it is worth something, but assuming he wasn't physically hurt, he should get an apology and at least a voucher for another flight of his choice.

Maybe. But it's the truth. If you don't like it, don't fly with them.

I'm not Spirit Airlines. I don't care what they'd try to say.

Deserving? Horse shite. It is a standard industry practice allowed by the DOT.
If that's true then the guy will lose and not get a penny. So what are you so worried about?

Come on...
This story has turned everyone into lunatics. United fricked up in how they handled it and compounded their problem with shoddy PR antics, but legally they're in the clear. They may have violated their own policies, but I've read articles saying that "boarding" isn't finished until the plane leaves the gate, so it's a little murky.
The practice is shitty, no doubt, but this passenger doesn't deserve a million dollars over something that is allowed by the DOT. The physicality of the situation is a problem for the Chicago Department of Aviation, not United.

so let me get this straight before my flight to Miami in two weeks
if they ask me to get off the plane and I refuse their orders to the point that security has to drag me out I can sue and get a shite pile of money, all because I refused instructions?

I hope that guy bankrupts those bastards.

They're going to settle because of the PR nightmare associated with fighting it.

If you're correct, then united will continue standing it's ground and the guy will lose and get nothing. That's what you believe the outcome will be, right?
Posted on 4/12/17 at 7:51 am to slackster
Exactly. I'm not a fan of United or the decisions leading up to the guy being dragged off the plane (like allowing the passengers to board and not offering more than $800), but once it was determined that he needed to be removed from the plane, how else were they supposed to get him off?
The passenger is the one who decided to go limp and force them to drag him off. The 3 others who were forced off the plane walked off without incident, including his wife.

Have you not been paying attention the last 48 hours? They are already well past the point of no return of a PR nightmare. There are direct quotes from the CEO that, from a PR perspective, blame the entire incident on the passenger.
