United's dragged passenger hires high-powered Chicago personal injury lawyer

United Airlines' initial attempt Monday to quell mounting outrage over viral videos of a passenger being dragged from his seat added fuel to the backlash against the airline. So on Tuesday, CEO Oscar Munoz called the event "truly horrific" in a second apology.
But while United was crafting another bid to defuse the situation, the flood of angry comments and memes on social media was replaced by tough questions from local and federal authorities and a mention of the incident by the White House.
Meanwhile, David Dao, the passenger at the center of the growing imbroglio, retained a high-powered Chicago personal injury lawyer, Thomas Demetrio.
Dao was in a Chicago hospital undergoing treatment for his injuries Tuesday, according to a statement from Demetrio, who is helping represent Dao and his family.
Demetrio's practice centers on medical negligence, product liability, airplane crash and commercial litigation on behalf of plaintiffs and he has negotiated more than $1 billion in settlements, according to the firm's website.

Sure, but this guy is going to claim millions in injuries, which is equally fricked up.

frick that whiny bitch. He should have just gottwn off the plan like an adult. United was wrong, but it's their plane. I'm tired of people feeling entitled to just get their way all the time.

How much could this possibly be worth? I can't see a reason he would get anywhere near $1MM.

You're right, United messed up, BUT, the passenger was in total control of the situation initially. Once he made his decision, he then gave control of the situation to United. Once you give up control of the situation, you've got to expect a reaction, regardless that the reaction may go overboard like this one did. IMO, the passenger owns part of this. No different than Alton Sterling did, he gave up control.

United will offer a voucher for one (1) free bag of peanuts on his next flight.

Probably very little compared to what this will cost the airline overall in crisis PR management, legal defense, policy reforms, retraining, and ticket revenue over the next few weeks.
Would have been a lot cheaper just to cough up a few hundred more in credits until they found a volunteer.
Under no circumstance should a boarding take place without resolving an overbooking situation at the gate. And a nonthreatening passenger should never be forcefully removed from a plane or injured because of an overbooking - especially in the age of mobile phones with cameras.

That ship has sailed for the most part. This guy doesn't deserve $1MM from United, and his case really should be against the Chicago Department of Aviation.

I hope he gets paid, united was a POS for bumping a paying passenger, I don't give a shite that they were removing ppl so united staff could fly.

Hopefully he settles for enough to push United into making major staff or policy changes at Chicago.
They won't be stingy with their vouchers anymore.

I usually dislike ambulance chasers, but this guy should get every penny he can from United. frick them for overbooking flights, frick them for forcing random passengers off, frick them for getting security to drag him off the plane instead of raising the voucher price, and frick the CEO for not apologizing right away.

I hope he loses and goes in the hole to pay his scumbag attorney.

He's going to claim millions in punitive damages. That's not fricked up, and that's what is deserving here. Whether he claims that much in compensatory damages is another subject.
