Most of the "elite" musicians that fly with their instruments pay for the seat next to them to be occupied by their instrument.

Steve Howe used to book his ES-175 as "Mr Gibson". To him, I guess it was like a 400 year old violin.

I've flown on a flight with the seat in front of me occupied by a cello

Cellos are large instruments. Cellos dont fit under the seat in front of you. I have a hard time believing it fit IN the seat, maybe in 1st class.
