As part of the company's new pricing tier, Basic Economy, passengers who purchase the airline's cheapest fares will only be allowed one personal item that must fit under a seat. Additionally, customers will not be assigned seats until the day of departure, meaning people on the same ticket could be separated.

Hell yes! It's about time! A man gotta eat. I'll let you put it in the cockpit at a discounted rate but I only accept cash.

Anyone else get overhead bin anxiety, especially when you're in Group 3? I usually treat myself to an upgrade or 2, especially when my boarding pass is on my phone.

the only thing I like about United is the Mediterranean snack box.

Southwest would be 100% better if they let you pick your seats when booking.

Fuel prices are at a record low.
Profits are up.

"Hey, let's charge for more shite they need!"

Waiting on oxygen fees and bathroom use passes.

"But if you just upgrade to Business Class for an extra $3,000 you get it all included!"

90% of the time getting on a plane is people trying to jam crap into the overheads.

irony is that those fees were always part of the airfare, the new breed of bean counters have just chosen these new fares as a means of extracting more blood in the name of "market yield"

Southwest never charged for baggage fees, and their market share increased to make up for the other airlines increased charges.

I'm going to have to bring two service animals with me from now on to help me cope with the stress of increased fees.

that's not really my end of the business but I think they are getting into that game too, many ways to disguise the fact that it's already a part of the fare, for everyone, whether or not they are bringing a bag on board, WA has always tried to play up the "we're the little guy just trying to give you a good deal" type of airline, and have always done well in their niche, truth is once they get out of that protective bubble that the they've always been in the legacy airlines will stomp on them like the little gnat on their arse that SW has always been, ...and then they'll go to Washington crying about anti-trust, unfair res systems,...etc., one vicious cycle
