CrossFit is just one type of exercise program... Some people like to lift weights... some people like to run.

There are plenty of people that "check in" on FB when they go to Planet Fitness or Anytime Fitness.

There are plenty of CrossFit people that don't "talk about CrossFit"

No matter which workout regimen you choose the long term benefits to exercise are the real reason to do it.

I'm in my 40's and I started CrossFit about 5 months ago because I wanted to try something that I enjoyed more than a gym or running. So far I've been very pleased with my results and the variety of exercises that we do.

I don't have any aspirations to make the CrossFit games and I don't really even push too hard on the workouts. I use it to maintain my flexibility and overall strength. I can see it as something that I will do for a long time.

I did sign up for the CF Open this year as part of a group workout with my gym. I'm looking forward to going through the workouts with my friends over the next 5 weeks and then we will probably have a crawfish boil at the end. Sounded like a fun experience.

I'm also in my 40's and Ive done a dozen triathlons, a couple half ironmans, a few half marathons, 10ks, 5ks, etc, and used to be in great shape, started doing high intensity/strength workouts about 9 months ago and feel like I'm in better shape than I've ever been in.

If I lived closer I would. I go to a CF gym near my house in Metairie. Can't beat the convenience for me or I'd never go

So your shoulders get a bit tired and your legs a bit less so...?

You crossfire people are such an annoying insufferable bunch of unathletic pussies

Get a fricking life. Go to the gym and try not telling the fricking world about it

Oh, and just for good measure, GFY

So you either have a strong background in Olympic lifting for snatch with a dumbbell or you have bad technique

Says the guy who sees a thread on a message board about crossfit and thinks

"Oh my god frick this I've just got to go in there and tell all these pussies off!"

Again to my point earlier in the thread why are people so threatened by this, I see plenty of threads on here about stuff I don't do, some of which I find to be a complete waste of time and I don't go into those threads and try to trash the people in them.

Seems like if anything you need to get a life.

Probably. A DB Snatch is a very technical lift.

You're showing your naivety.

it's basically just a good cardio workout,

If you are no longer a beginner lifter, you realize that you have to build higher cardio if you are going to continue building muscle

Would you consider a KB snatch a "very technical" lift? I wouldn't. And dumbbell snatchs are easier than KB snatchs.

It's not a beginner lift, but it isn't one that requires some kind of expert knowledge either.

What I consider very technical lifts are Olympic barbell movements, advanced powerlifting techniques, crazy KB stuff (bent presses, bottoms up stuff, anyhow squats, etc.) and those crazy calisthenics workouts which are guys doing bar gymnastics.

Have been struggling with back issues for around 2-3 months now (was away from crossfit for 2.5 weeks and went back in thinking I could be like my usual self, fricked my back up on power cleans), I'm a dumbass and decided to try this. I've been putting off exercises like snatches to help to get back to 100%. I'm way too competitive and decided to do this. Couldn't even finish the last round of burpees I was in so much pain. So I believe I'm done with this years open. Sucks.

Agreed and I'd add in any single handed Oly lifts.
