I'm wondering where they're getting these numbers. No way 44% of Louisianans have a college degree.
gotta be limited to adult population and taken from US Census bureau stats...right?

We should cut them down to LSU BR, LSU Shreveport, UNO and maybe ULL.
Don't forget the upper echelon of waste that is SUNO.

Still $30K+ to get a degree from ULL, McNeese, etc

In this current economic climate, not many new grads are finding jobs very easily...

It may just result in more people going to ULL.
And UNO.

Why keep LSU Shreveport?

You want to cut La Tech but keep LSU-S?

While I agree that we have way too many universities, it’s not that easy to consolidate them all to 4 like you’re suggesting. Just closing the other UL system schools in this thread (excluding ULL and UNO) would account for 65,000 additional students. Add another 15,000 from the Southern University system. Capacity for another 80k students ain’t cheap. That’s the equivalent of building 2-3 more universities the size of LSU BR. What about housing? Transportation/roadway/parking improvements?
And that’s before you even get into the argument over which schools close. LSU-S has only 2,500 undergrad students while ULM has 7,500 undergrad. So do you close ULM and quadruple LSU-S undergrad capacity, or do you close LSU-S undergrad programs but keep the LSU-HSC in Shreveport? And good luck closing Southern and Grambling.

Results in 4,125 for a full 15 per semester. Fees are gone.

The tuition change is almost a 45% decrease in price, Henderson said.
The tuition isn't the same for every school in the UL system. Some of them are already less than $4125/semester.

The three qualifications for the price change are being a Louisiana resident, some college credit but no degree and out of school for at least two years.
(Editor's Note: This story was updated to include the student qualifications for these tuition cuts.)
This thread missed a big update to the story.

You'd have to keep Southeastern, UL-L, and Tech.
Scuttle UNO and LSU-S.

$4,125 a semester

Only applies to adults who have been out of state for a period of time. Laughable at best.

according the the SELU website, current tuition & fees for 12 hours:
under the $275 per credit, $3300
but 15 hours = $4`125 not much savings
120 credit hours = $33k
