I was watching a Blackhawk come in from the mountains this morning and as he got closer to my office, he banked hard and did a 270 degree turn and briskly landed. It looked like he went down on the interstate in a large cloud of dust, so I hopped in the car and drove over to see what the ordeal was, and this helicopter lands on the play field of a private elementary school in South Denver.

I seriously let out a "What the frick!"

I've never heard of a military aircraft landing at an elementary/middle/high school for a lecture and show and tell.

One landed at my kids school last spring. Kids could climb in and parents came to see it too. They said they have to fly training missions so might as well make it a PR opportunity. Starting to recruit early.

Well I guess my childhood sucked comparatively. It's amazing how fast these things can spot an LZ and just put it down.

Buddy Roemer landed his State Police helicopter at my Elementary school back in 1990 or 89. It was cool, first time I saw a helicopter up close.

During the katrina aftermath me and a group of friends were drinking at walkons, after volunteering at the pmac. A black hawk came and landed in the grass area. They guys came in, ate, went back and took off.

We almost had one of those land on the football field during a game because the ref had a heart attack and it was the one game the volunteer ambulance got called away elsewhere.
