I'm talking about the space between the period and first letter of the next sentence, not the space below a paragraph.

I've used two spaces my entire life and was just told to only use one. Now the whole office is debating whether it is one or two.

Both are acceptable, but the world is transitioning to 1 space

I've recently started using 3 because the millennials were getting pissed off about 2.

The trick is to make all the punctuation marks 15 size font. And expand the top, bottom and side margins by .2. Your paper will be long enough. Don’t worry

It should be 2, unless you're writing for a newspaper or magazine and space constraints matter.

Two spaces is easier on the eyes. It also separates those who care about doing things properly from those who are attempting to bastardize our written and spoken language in the interest of expediency.
