I would agree with you up until about 2010.
Now, those guys may want to stay out of prison so they can keep their job and not be accused of racist assault when people release the initial video where the black dude hit the woman to start it is edited out and the white guy looks like the aggressor.

This. And its really depressing, tbh. If it was my wife? Sure, I'd be too enraged to stop and think either way. A stranger 10 people away? Idk. I wouldn't let him hit her again, but once she's standing there seemingly ok and nobody else is doing anything... I don't think I'd go escalate it. I wouldn't trust the police, DA, or witnesses to do the the right thing when the dust settles and that's heartbreaking.
If that was our parents generation that dude would have gotten his arse beat and he would have known that. That's why it didn't happen.

It’s really all talk until you are put in that situation. I’m from small town south La., currently live in Dallas and travel a lot.
We were in NYC during thanksgiving a couple of years ago on a family trip. Walking along in the financial district and it was kind of empty. My MIL was kind of trailing behind the group and a guy came out of nowhere and pulled a knife on her. Instinct kicked in and put myself between him and the rest of our family. He didn’t even think about it after that. He hauled arse and we called the cops.
They were on scene in about two minutes.
I hope that I would have acted the same way in this situation and I believe that most of the “tough guys”,as you call them, would too.

My daddy always said the good Lord only lets us live so long because the way the world changes would cause people like us to go "postal" on folks.
I now see what he meant. I don't know what I would have done but I think I know. I think I would have gotten my arse beat, or stabbed, or shot by this no good thug "suspect" because I don't think even at my old tired assed age I could have sat by and let this go.
Also in my mind is would this young lady have even appreciated someone standing up for her. I'd hope so. But nowadays as soft as our society has gotten she might have turned around and reasoned that this poor, underprivileged, mistreated minority gentleman had a reason to express such rage.
Thank God we live where we live.

When criminals and thugs are untouchable, shite like this will happen. Nobody dared intervening for threat of being classified as a domestic terrorist by our media. He would have had a statue next to George Floyd.
