Personally I suspect a shoe bomber terrorist attack that was hushed up to prevent panic. Early in the investigation there were reports that traces of chemical explosives were detected in the cabin.

Yeah there were a couple possible explanations for that. They mentioned a dog sniffing exercise on the plane not too long before that. Also, the plane was used as a troop transport during the Gulf War.

This.

Now the deep conspiracy theorist side of me also says the reason why is there was someone on that plane that the government really wanted dead.

I think it was the CWT explosion. The eyewitness reports of a missile leading to an explosion were just the nose section of the plane falling off with some flames, rest of plane ascending, and then boom with wing separation and fire.

if eyewitnesses saw something going UP to the plane, how would the nose section falling DOWN account for that?

i'm not on the conspiracy bandwagon, but i'm not understanding how the nose section explains away the missile

Because some of us can handle the truth.

And here's something else to ponder. Some of us are damn tired of watching good, patriotic, hard-working, innocent Americans murdered to further some powerful maniac's agenda.

I know that doesn't (maybe?) fit with the moon landing, but it is certainly germane to the topic.

Agreed. Just because some yahoo wants his 15 seconds of fame doesn't mean ignore the mountain of evidence and common sense to the contrary.

No clue what actually happened, but we lost an amazing musician in Marcel Dadi who was on the flight. A wonderful human being and a hell of a guitar player.

My aunt's best friend was on that flight as well. They made a cool bronze statue of her in our community. I personally didn't know her but apparently was a great lady.

Always been so many questions about this accident. I get the spark answer and it is somewhat plausible. However, the eyewitness accounts of something fired toward the plane are out there. I believe it was shot down by terrorist or the navy and it was covered up to prevent panic.

NTSB's determination of a center fuel tank explosion caused by faulty electrical wiring sparking fuel vapor ignition is supported by thousands of hours of engineering analysis, and similar type accidents on other aircraft.

Assuming for argument a Navy ship fired a missile, inadvertent or deliberate, that launch would have been quickly reported by the ship's CO to his superior officer, then up the chain of command and onward to many senior officers. Adding the sailors and officers onboard, the odds that several hundreds of individuals managed to remain silent at the time, or all the following years, is zero.

Flight 800's fuselage reconstruction revealed no metallurgical or forensic explosives evidence of an external source. No shrapnel damage or other evidence of external sourced fuselage penetration. The investigation concluded that the evidence clearly proved an internal explosive cause, and how that occurred.

The reconstructed wreckage was scheduled for demolition in the summer of 2021.

TWA 800 Remnants to be Scrapped

quote:

The NTSB's “decommissioning” of the fuselage in the warehouse is so secret that it is being managed like a military operation. The ultimate goal is to melt, slice, dice and otherwise eviscerate the 60,000-pound section of the jetliner — including passengers’ seats — into bits and pieces so unrecognizable that profiteers won’t be able to sell it.

“We don’t want any of this turning up on eBay,” said NTSB spokesman Christopher T. O’Neil. “When all is said and done, there will be nothing that can be used as an artifact of TWA 800. There’s not going to be anything that can be exploited.”

No, the nose section fell off causing the rest of plane to climb causing the appearance of a climbing missile.

ok that sort of makes sense. remaining portion of the plane climbs and people see that. plus the SOUND of the explosion wouldnt get to them for awhile, so it could look like a rising missile followed by an explosion, when in reality the explosion happened already

that many seaman mishandling their missile, leading to an unexpected explosion would raise eyebrows, especially in the 90s.
