I used to have minor issues with TMJ, but now the problem is worse my jaw keeps popping in/out of socket.
Anyone have TMJ, and what was done about it to make it better?

Bummer, must not work out too well for you when you try to eat creamed foods.

My life sucks, so I hardly notice it anymore.

Following this one, I've been having issues lately that I think are related to TMJ. Jaw popping out of socket on occasion, lately sore jaw, ears ringing sometimes, soreness/muscle spasm right above my ears. All seem to be symptoms of TMJ when googling

Same here, and they've become worse over time. My jaw used to pop out of socket, and immediately pop back in, but now it stays out of socket for a good 5-10 minutes.

The most common treatment for TMJ is an occlusal guard. Most dental insurance doesn't cover any of the cost which is in the ball park of $600.00.you can buy an OTC appliance at a drug store and see if you get any relief with it. If so talk to your dentist about having one made. If you don't get any relief with it you should probably see a specialist.

I live with it. Try not to do anything to stress it. Don't make it pop if you can even though sometimes it is unavoidable. And whatever you do, don't get the surgery. It is not a very high probability of success and you can end up with complications.

Let me know if something works. I've had TMJ for about 8 years, it hurts really bad when my jaw locks up.

If you are in Baton Rouge, call Robin Levy's office and ask about laser treatment for TMJ. Cheaper than an occlusal guard and non-invasive.

If it's a muscle issue Botox can help. It's usually myofacial in nature and Botox can really help.

TMJ can be a lot of things. Technically TMJ refers to the joint, not an issue in particular. You can have authritis, it come out of socket, bone spurs, etc. That all cause pain in the joint, so its hard to say if theres an overall best treatment for TMJ pain.
I broke my jaw several years back in a car accident. When the unwired my mouth, they realized it didn't heal perfectly strait which has caused some issues. Some dental work straightened out my bite, but its still not perfect (one side has a little more pressure when mouth is closed than the other). It sounds like a tiny issue, but the joint will get inflammation every once in a while and the pain is just god awful.

TMJ used to cripple me. Like, no joke, in the fetal position on the floor bad. I have been fitted for two different splints over the last 6 years and they both worked wonders. It keeps you from grinding at night, and also helps to reset your jaw a bit and keep your muscles from getting inflamed.
If it's a small problem today, it will probably be a big problem down the line. Go see a dentist about it. And then get a second opinion when the first dentist suggests surgery.
