Long story short. Town has several overdoses in short time. Police chief say that for anyone who turns themselves in they can get free treatment to recover from the addiction.Would this work on a large scale?

Maybe I read it wrong, but I saw them saying they wouldn't arrest somebody for coming forward with an addiction(even if they had drugs on them), not that they would end the war all together. Did I not read far enough?

After four deaths due to drug overdose in Gloucester in early 2015, Capanello announced a new policy: Rather than arresting drug users for possession, the police department would offer free treatment to addicts who turned themselves in.

My question would be what if they did not want free treatment? Then would they go to jail and face the charges? If so I am all for it.

Great. More legal meth to disperse out into the streets. yeah, that'll fix it!

I know it's not exactly apples to apples, but it's been working pretty well in Portugal for something like 10 years.

Legal, illegal. If people want it, they'll get it.

A lot of people don't want treatment. Others will use and abuse it time and time again. Maybe about 2% would quit for good. Wouldn't be economically feasible

You should rephrase that to a lot of people don't want treatment because they know that most treatment doesn't work. Most addicts want to be rid of the disease, but quitting hard drugs is extremely hard to accomplish. Takes way more than rehab and suboxone, methadone, etc...

I'm hoping they do more studies on Ibogaine, but it's doubtful considering how much money is made off addiction treatment

Decriminalize all possession up to a certain amount for every drug.

Prosecute dealers. Get addicts help.

So the junkies overdose and die and the ones with self control and ambition prosper, what's the problem here?
