I get it. You are either gonna have to suck it up when you are around your family and do what they are nagging about or stand up to them and make things uncomfortable for a while and possibly ruin relationships with your Orthodox extended family.
I'd just suck it up to avoid an uncomfortable situation, bit I understand that doing that your whole life is Fi ally coming to a head.

Catholics do the same thing. When lent comes around people I didn't ever think gave a damn about their religion decides they don't eat meat on Fridays until about 4 or 5 weeks into it they "forgot" it was Friday, ate meat so they just continue to eat it.

exactly.
and the fact that he "let him start eating pork" and then his disgust for the idea was so ingrained in his head that he had to go back on it.
