It was a tragic day. Everyone was on edge for a while after it. But it was cool seeing everyone come together. Everyone really bonded through sports after 9/11.
Osama's goal was to lure the US into the Bear Trap (Afghanistan) and bankrupt the country. I'd say he did a pretty good job.

I say this every year .. there as at one time a poster here whose dad was in the towers that fell that day. I remember him saying he was maybe 15 or 16 at the time and that they kind of just "pretended" he never came home from work as in he was off on a vacation somewhere. Still think about that kid ... searched a variety of combinations of words to find that post but never had any success.
I'm an emotional person to begin with ... I lost no one on that day. I know no one that died on that day. BUT I do know people that died in war that has gone on since and it sucks.

You don't know any people who are originally from Abbeville/Maurice, Louisiana area that worked at the Pentagon by chance? My neighbor's brother was in I forget what branch of service, pretty high up. She had some horrible stories from him; not sure what her maiden name was so I don't know his last name.

It will always mean something to me. I was in DC. I remember looking at the sky that morning thinking it was the bluest I'd ever seen.
Now, if the sky is really blue, I think of that day.
fricking assholes ruined the bluest sky for me.
But obviously worst of all was all the innocent people who died at once. Good people.

I'm not expecting it be any different work day tomorrow than any other day. Unfortunately. No one does anything special for December 7, either. Ever in my lifetime.
Really not sure what should be done. I'm sure most of the news media will replay some of it's coverage of that day, but otherwise, I doubt much else nationally will be mentioned about it. FoxNews will make some negative comments about how Obama hasn't done anything to prevent any more attacks and CNN will point out that no attacks like this have occurred with Obama.

Unlike 90% of nations, we believe that everyone is entitled to liberty and freedom. Granted I think our government has largely perversed these ideals, but it's an ideal that is still alive in basically every American. I really can't say the same for the vast majority of countries that believe we should just be a unit and not be excellent individuals. That is what makes America special and we were the first to implement this. Free society is based on the American system, and everyone in the world tries to emulate or defy us in some very direct way.

Yes. You were 13 and I was 20. We remember it differently than a 4 or 5 year old but that 4 or 5 year old grew up in a different world than we did as a result of that day. Not sure why you took offense to my post.

My point is they have no frame of reference. Yes, they know it was horrible, but they don't know what it was like before 9/11. As far as they're aware, this is the way society has always been. They can't fathom a society where there's not constant fear mongering and the fact that this was a climax for our country.

Funny you say that. I remember thinking the same thing in the morning on my way to 8th grade that day in Virginia. It really was the clearest blue sky I remember seeing.
