Thoughts on Simplisafe's security system?

There's a sale going on right now for Simplisafe. I don't currently have a system but my house is wired for one. I just don't like the idea of being tied to a contract with a security company and I like the concept of Simplisafe. Their top Defender package is normally $599 but its on sale for $399 and it ends tomorrow. Trying to decide whether I should go for that or customize my own for less. Also unsure of whether I should put entry sensors on windows because I feel like if someone were to get in here, it would be from them breaking a window and not opening one. Thoughts?

Who here uses this system already and what do you like or dislike about it?

Honestly, alarms don't necessarily stop burglars, but it does hurry their shopping spree and it may scare the rookies away.

Agreed but having that alarm blaring surely improves the odds of them hauling arse. I personally don't mind living with a system, but as a shift worker this gives my SO peace of mind.

Right, but you can have a siren alarm without being hooked to an alarm contract too. If that's what your concern is.

My parents have simplisafe and have no complaints.
Dad installed it himself.

So I'll not get into the alarm vs no alarm debate....the geniuses that came before me did that well enough I suppose.

However, as a former ADT user that switched to Simplisafe I can tell you that based on my experience Simplisafe offers everything that ADT did. No I have not been robbed yet, but I had ADT for 5 years and wasn't robbed then either. However, from the standpoint of response time from Simplisafe for false alarms it's the same as ADT. The difference being I'm paying Simplisafe (C.O.P.S.) 25 bucks/month vs 48 bucks/month with ADT.

Also I spent 400 bucks to buy the Simplisafe system whereas ADT wanted to charge me 1500+ to upgrade my old system to a cellular system.

Could you point me in this direction then? Ideally I'd like entry sensors on each of my 3 doors and just have an alarm trip when triggered. A keypad of some sort to arm them. I don't care to have a response system in place and pay for someone to call the police because as you said earlier, anything they'll get done will happen swiftly and the cops being called there will likely miss it.

When you're being held against your will while assholes do whatever, you'll want ADT calling the cops when you don't answer the phone. Or give the "something really is wrong but make it appear it's a false alarm" passcode if you're forced to answer the phone in front of them. Or when your SO is forced into your home against her will when you're st work, you will want her to be able to put in a secret distress code into the keypad that turns the alarm off but tells ADT to get the frickin swat team stat.

Simplisafe does none of that. At least I'm assuming they don't. I really don't know. I just want my referral.

We have it. We were paying exorbitant rates with me working for a local government and my wife in law school, so no second income. We'll stick with it when she's finally working full time in a couple of months. We live in an upper middle class neighborhood where crime is practically non-existent, but it's worked great for us. We pay $14 a month for 24/7 monitoring and you can't beat that. You have to install the equipment yourself, but it's straightforward and easy to do.

Definitely can't beat the price. For the difference, I can buy a decent bottle of bourbon a month.

Yeah, they do. We have a panic word. We have three panic buttons.

These are good points.

You don't have to sign up for SimpliSafe's monthly monitoring, but for just $15/month I don't see why you wouldn't. Recently looked into these guys for my business and found out that I'd hit ROI in 8 months vs. using ADT with the same components. Went ahead and signed up for my house too.

I installed a Simplisafe system a year ago and I like it. Well designed, easy to install, good price for the equipment and monitoring. And I like that it communicates directly over a cell tower if there is a break in. My wifi speed is garbage.

I think that's generally not true because burglars don't much like getting cut. But there is a sensor you can buy that listens for breaking glass, if that is a concern of yours.

I've had SimpliSafe for about three years now. No issues, great service. If I set it off, they call within 2 minutes, usually less. I've also had them call the cops before when both my wife and I did not answer.

No issues with the equipment, other than the keypad seems to run through batteries a couple times a year. T

he standard siren is not very loud. I've set it off going outside before, and while outside, I can barely hear it. It's loud enough inside. I recommend getting the extra siren. It's loud.

Oh, and I left my base station unplugged for an extended period once, they emailed me to make sure I knew it was unplugged.

I recommend it over the others.

Had it for four years and it's great. A sensor quit working well out of warranty and they replaced it no questions asked. The monitoring fees were the cheapest on the market at the time and likely still are. Monitoring is also completely optional which I liked.

I was out of town on work a few months after I installed it and my wife was home alone. We have some apartments through the woods behind my house and people have been seen cutting through my neighbors yard (I have a fence, he doesn't). Someone walked through our backyard and set of the motion detector triggering the alarm. Whoever it was bolted, cops showed up and checked everything and all was well.

Only complaint is Simplisafe doesn't stop my wife from bitching when I travel now
