Married, 2 kids (both under 4), good marriage, and job opportunity in Anchorage, AK. Job pays 250k/year with opportunity for 60-70k more in OT, etc. Wife is currently not 100% on board with a move.

I would have to travel about a week a month but the rest of the month I would set my schedule and mainly work from home. Wife is a school teacher in Louisiana and I currently work for the company but because we live in Louisiana, I have to travel 15-20 days a month mainly to Alaska.

What's the OT opinion? Stay put and wait for an opportunity stateside without that being guaranteed or pack up the family and move to the great white north?

Will you be selling ice to Eskimos? I've heard that's tough.

I've seen those 250k Anchorage jobs dry up in months. Ask yourself why are they paying me 250k? Is it because you are really qualified or because no one will go up there. That's the question you need to answer.

Anchorage is a shithole but you're only 15 minutes away from wilderness.

I do not exagerrate the shithole part. Read the Anchorage Daily News online and youll see what I mean. Tampant crime, drugs, and gang violence

Yeah I agree with you but this job isn't one that will dry up.

There is a reason they pay so much to live in Anchorage. It's a shite hole

Unless it's a huge jump, I wouldn't consider it. Cost of living is super high up there, and Anchorage isn't really a very nice city (despite being in a beautiful state). Your car will probably be broken into by someone on bath salts.

Plus, there's not much cultcha in AK.

AK also has beautiful places to visit.

Good money for you. Really, only negative I see is the cold. I'd do it if I was you.
