I've had 2 ladies that work in our office text me tonight saying they wouldn't come in tomorrow b/c of the shootings today. Both live in Livingston, and had the same story of their husbands not letting them go "to the city" until it "all calms down". Our office is across from Ruffinos, not exactly in a bad part of town, and in their job they don't interact with the public at all.

I'm willing to go one day, but I'm expecting them in on Tuesday. They aren't related to any of the officers, nor are they neighbors or friends as far as I know. Am I being an insensitive dick?

Typical bullshite people not wanting to work. As sad as the events are today I will be at work tomorrow. The crazy thing is on Wednesday of last week I met with the district manager of B-Quick at that location and gave them a proposal Thursday and was supposed to follow up tomorrow, now that's not going to happen because I'm sure I'm the last thing they are worried about.

They can have the one day, but it's completely unnecessary for more than that, especially where you're located.

Not really, but if they aren't essential employees just go with the flow and expect them back Tuesday. If they are essential employees to the business, that might be a different story.

No you're not being insensitive but if a husband doesn't want his wife to go to work that's a different story.

I think everyone outside the crime scene should go to work.

I don't see any reason to not work tomorrow unless you work in the area that is still a crime scene.

I would make it clear they aren't being paid, i understand grieving but the fact they live in Livingston and are scared to come to "the city"...that's a little excessive.

my take is that the sooner people get back to work and into their normal routine, the better.

I would treat it just as I do inclement weather that is not bad enough to close the office...since the office is not closed, there is no "excused" day off. If people want to take a day(s) of vacation, they are certainly allowed to do that any time they would like.

this is 100% BS. They are nowhere near the incident at home nor at work. They are using this as a reason to skip work. I'm right by your business. If one of my employees pulls this crap I'll gladly tell them to find another job.

Then tell them to enjoy their 4 day weekend and you'll see them Tuesday.
