It's like citing the OT for average bench press of 545.
Way low!

Its great the school does do that but its also very important the parents are enforcing the same thing. That is done at home also.
Well yeah, that's kind of obvious. But at least your son/daughter will have that reinforcement during the day while you're at work and they're at school. They're not going to get that in public school. If you do, it's the exception and not the rule.

My brother used to hire people where he works and I know others who recruit/hire for their company. We've had this conversation, they could care less where you went to high school and understand just because your parents didn't make enough money doesn't mean you can't be a valuable employee. They care about what degree you have, your college GPA and if you can get along/fit in with the personality of the company.
Again, kind of obvious. But if your brother was a CHS grad and an active men's club member, active in the alumni group, etc. - don't think for one second that he wouldn't give preferential treatment to an applicant who graduated from Catholic. I'm a Catholic grad, and have experienced that across the board in several different types of venues, business, family, personal, etc. The person's eyes light up when you tell them you graduated from there. Maybe not your brother, but again...that's the exception and not the rule.
quote:I mean, is she wrong though? Sounds to me like you've kind of got a chip on your shoulder about your alma mater. That's cool, whatever. But if anything, you should agree with her rather than trying to debate her about it. Because you know she's right. And you're right too. We did grow beards and our hair out in the summer and after graduation. It took me a good while to wear chinos and a polo tucked in with a belt after graduating CHS.
My sister-in-law is the worst when it comes to catholic VS public. Her son goes to catholic and we were at a Catholic VS Dutchtown baseball game. Keep in mind she's still trying to convince my wife and I to send our kids to a private school. A couple DT kids had hair that was a little long. She says "look at those boys with the long hair, that would never be allowed at Catholic".
I realize there are douchey parents out there when it comes to Catholic/SJA. I'm not denying that. But man, if you're a graduate of the school you know it's a damn good school to attend. If you have the money and the means necessary to send your kids there, do it. There's also nothing to be ashamed of to send your kids the public school route. But don't sit there and be just as douchey knocking everything about Catholic/SJA in the same breath.

Ascension Christian is good as well as The Church Academy in St Amant. My daughter is in 7th grade there and loves. It's a Christ Centered environment and teaches from a biblical worldview. Please check out Christian Life in Baton Rouge as well. After this year TCA ( the Church Academy) will be the new name of Christian Life. Totally new leadership. If you want your children not to want to conform to this world and understand their value in Christ while getting a great education.

So by your argument why does it matter where anyone goes to school since the outcome solely relies on genetics and parenting.
I'm not saying that being a grad of a top tier highschool will get you a job or close you the deal but it will get you in the room.
It's not a silver bullet that sets you up for life but you are granted every opportunity you can ask for in Baton Rouge.
