People have been lying to migrate here since the 1900s. That's not gonn stop any time soon, unfortunately. I just feel like it's misplaced anger. You should be alarmed that with all our resources and "intellect", we can't contain this thing.

Patients lie to doctors and nurses every damn day. It's there job to do their job. The hospital had their chances to stop this mess and theh fumbled this terribly. Not only did they put other patients at risk, but they put their workers at risk.

Getting mad at a dead man really doesn't solve anything. It's actually just a waste of your time.

He shouldn't have to. Health professionals know protocol on how to deal with travelers from third world countries.

Sad to say, but Presbyterian dropped the ball on the most basic of assessment.

This. And what is even more ridiculous to me is how the physicians in charge keep blaming the nurses for the missed diagnosis, as if the MD doesn't make the final assessment, diagnosis and discharge. There's so much finger pointing going on.

No one that should take responsibility for it wants to take responsbility for it.

if people lie, no disease can be diagnosed properly at first

i'm not relieving the hospital from any sort of blame, but they were only faced with this due to the actions of a liar acting completely selfishly

a. i'm not mad

b. this is a discussion about his level of evil, not a discussion of solving the problem that he introduced to this continent

He's a piece of shite who put his family and countless others at risk because he lied at the airport and held back information at the hospital.

He can be in denial all he wants, but he knew that he could have ebola and exposed his family. That is so grossly negligent that it can be considered evil.

Just because the hospital dropped the ball does not make him innocent in everything. He was selfish and did not care about the consequences of his actions.

Agreed. Being scared and not telling the doctors everything they need to know doesn't make you evil. Guy was probably in denial of being diagnosed with ebola.. people lie about shite to doctors all the time. Stupid, reckless, and inconsiderate of him, yes, but calling him evil is a huge stretch.

The tragedy here isn't the outbreak. The tragedy is, by myself being a healthcare professional, seeing so clearly how this breakdown in communication occurred, and knowing how rife our healthcare system is with, quite frankly, laziness.

That's a large part of the reason our healthcare system, while regarded as the best in the world, is actually a broken system. It lacks "continuity of care."

Slo, as your friend, I'm just letting you know that the hospital fricked this one up. It wasn't the guys fault.

did your lie put potentially thousands of people at risk of contracting a terrible disease?

Ok, from most evil to least evil:

Baking your son in an SUV (tried to lie about it-willing to live with the guilt if he got away with it)

Killing and having sex with your mother (murder+sexual gratification)

Withholding information about your deadly and contagious condition (extreme negligence)

Scruffy brought that up before and apparently intentions mean nothing.

He is automatically evil despite whatever his intentions were.

Yeah, it wasn't his fault at all that this spread to the U.S.

Duncan isn't even the most evil in his category. I would say the preacher that was knowingly spreading AIDS is more evil.

I'll go with the one who withheld information, and now has established a highly contagious disease in one of the most populated areas of the US.

Now THAT is evil. Dude was diagnosed. There is no denial. Duncan could have been in denial because he couldn't diagnose himself. He wasn't a physician.

Not to my knowledge, but maybe the guy figured the US system could treat him.
