This is why I will NEVER vote for a tax increase of any kind!

Talked to a buddy of mine whose brother works in the Pentagon and oversees purchasing in some department. He tells me about a conversation he had with his little brother, who had received this big promotion about a year ago.
His brother really tried to do a good job purchasing items at the lowest price and had over a half million dollars left due to cutting back on frivolous spending. He meets with his superior and thought his boss would be impressed that he saved so much money, but received the shock of his career. Before he could even end his sentence, his boss tells him to spend it immediately. His boss informed him that if they didn't spend it, their budget would be cut and they would never see that money again. So his brother followed the orders he was given and sat down and ordered over a half million dollars of useless shite!
Another friend, who is an engineer with the Corp of Engineers, chimed in and told us about the new fleet of Yukons they just received. He said the average price of each was about $80,000! I have no problem with the Corp of Engineers driving a nice vehicle, but I guess a $35,000 Camry is beneath them.
This type of frivolous spending is the reason I will never support any type of tax increase! All you have to do is look at our current president, who is a career politician and has made hundred of millions of dollars off the backs of hard working Americans!

I used to read the FedBizOps site, where the GSA and DoD post requisitions for all sorts of stuff. I remember seeing one that called for bids to outfit some fancy theater on an Army base. It called for "Monster Cables" by name.
Many of you probably know that Monster Cables are 1000%+ overpriced versions of the ordinary A/V cables you might buy at Wal-Mart. They offer no advantage over any other cable. I guess if you're spending the Yankee Empire's ill-gotten gains, no snake oil is too expensive.

bro, do you even "this is how our government works?" disgusting, but that shite's been going on forever

This is BS because GSA handles vehicle purchases and agencies “rent” them.

quote:I have made a bunch of money in my sales life by selling stuff to local, state and federal agencies at the end of their budget years. Just crazy amounts of stuff they dont really need. But they all say the same thing you heard. We have zero budgeting controls at any locale. Common sense is not used at all, we have allowed our systems to become too complicated and frivolous.
his boss tells him to spend it immediately. His boss informed him that if they didn't spend it, their budget would be cut and they would never see that money again.
It must be fixed and no one is talking about it.

That is how many Louisiana Universities operate.
I learned this at Nicholls. A professor told me that the department had to spend all the money it was allocated in order for it to get the same or more allocation for next year.
That is why some places will buy a year’s worth of toilet paper or new equipment in June to make sure their budget is spent.

He’s not lying. And this is nothing new. It’s been going on since at least the 90’s. When I was in the Army we’d have our Hospital Purchasing Department come around every Aug and tell us we had 3 days to spend XXXX amount of money or we’d lose it from the budget next fiscal year. It would range from a $3K-$20K per department every year.

Same shite happens in EDU. Had a department head meeting with the principal a few years ago. He said, "We have to spend this money in the next two weeks, or they will cut back our Title I money. I don't care what we spend it on."

Anyone familiar with gov't agencies or military knows this is how it works.
Its not that the money would completely disappear if your agency/office dont spend it, but it will be shifted the next FY to somewhere else.

This doesn’t just happen in government. It’s budget 101 in the private sector as well.

i do government bids all the time and you all should be appalled at what people will do to spend money how they want.
I low bid a neutral product to government entities this year and 2 different entities chose to go 20-40% over our cost to go with friends' bids. this isn't like i offered up toyota camrys and my competitor offered up chevy malibus. we both bid camrys from the same dealership.
one of them, his friend left their previous job and went to a competitor of ours and we had incumbent pricing and he told the supplier that he didn't care what the cost was, he was going with his friend. cost $100k extra to his taxpayers to line his friend's pocket.

They have never passed an audit. Any private business would be screwed operating the same.

That message could be conveyed with a reputable news article rather than hearing it from someone who heard it from their best friends neighbor's veterinarian
