nothing wrong with switching to cricket. However,

quote:

It isn't like I am getting screwed buying a new phone since AT&T makes you pay full price but over a long period of time.

is not a true statement.

Perhaps I missed the notification but when I walked in to the ATT store a few days before the deadline I had never been notified. In fact, it was not until after the transaction was complete that I was informed.

The 25 dollar a month credit cancels out the installment for me. Plus I can upgrade whenever.

The big question is does the extra $25 fee go away once it catches up with the remaining cost of the phone? I suspect it does not but I very well may be wrong.

Of course it does. That's why I like the Next plan. Once I'm done paying off my 6 my bill will decrease by $25. And I plan to use my 6 as long as it continues to work.

I'm not talking about at&t specifically. But it's no shock that carriers are moving away from unlimited plans. All of them have been jockeying to do that for years now.

Trade in and upgrade

This is the part that I flat refuse to do.

Basically, I would have paid X months of the phone cost, but then have to give the phone back to you in order to upgrade.

So, I effectively bought 70% the phone, but I'm going to give it back to you for free for the right to upgrade sooner?

Hell no. That's a rental, not a purchase. Unless I'm getting a portion of the money as a credit toward the cost of my next phone, I'll pay the phone off, keep it, and upgrade later.

I'm not in the cell phone business dude, why the frick would I know this? You're acting like they sent out a notification and I just ignored it.

Yes I am fully aware I can keep my plan and just pay full retail for a phone, so save it.

But just imagine all the idiots who don't look at it this way and can't wait another second to get the latest phone. They will make a ton of money off of these suckers. But people with just marginal common sense will save money.

So it's basically a win for both AT&T and people with common sense

That's my issue, however as of the last week or so, ATT is offering unlimited plans if you have ATT wireless and DirecTv. Which I have.

I do not know what it costs for that vs what it costs now.

I think it's $100 plus $40 per line (first line is free).

The monthly cost for the data is $60, plus $40 for each line. The fourth line is free. This means one line costs $100 a month, two lines are $140, and then three or four lines cost $180. You can connect up to 10 lines to the service. For someone who already has DirecTV or U-Verse it's not a bad deal.

Well im not either but i didnt really consider that insider knowledge. Seems pretty wordly but i guess we'll just disagree on that. It's hardly a point worth belaboring anyway.

comes out the same and it allows people that like to upgrade to do so much more often.

This is false - time value of money means that paying in 25$ a month in today's dollars is financing a cell phone that I'm capable of buying outright in tomorrows dollars and I get to keep the interest I earn/buying power.

This has been reported on Tiger Droppings multiple times in the past and I know I received an email and at least 2 letters at home explaining changes being made to 2 year contracts.

Correct, it's an offer that appeals to poor people. People with sense will treat it like free financing and pay the phone off.

Well what's the DTV & u-verse deal?

We have both of those in the house. I've just always had my cell phone separate because I had it way before I had a wife and cable for that matter.

My wife's phone is AT&T too, but like me she has always paid it herself. Do we need to combine all of it?
