Started making it an annual trip.
Last visit was for the US Open in September. Seems like the in laws want to make it an annual thing. I could get into that idea.
Little bit easier for them. They just take the train up from DC.

Wife and I have the Southwest Companion Pass, so she flys for free and we book it with points.
Makes it a lot easier. You should look into it

I know all about Southwest companion passes.
Flying isn't the issue

Just got back on Thursday from NYC.
3rd time i've gone and it still hasn't changed my mind that it is a shite hole.

Manhattan, where every tourist is going, is perfectly fine.
I always stay in Manhattan around Grand Central. Can go pretty much anywhere in the city from there. Love the whole NYC vibe. The history is top notch, food is great, and plenty to see and do whatever your interest.
My first trip was to see all the tourist sites. City was a bit overwhelming at first but once I learned the subway system I came and went with ease. And around $30 for the week long subway pass... no better way to move around. And New Yorkers are friendly. Just ask if you don't know. They know you are a tourist and seem to take pride in pointing you in the right direction.
Subsequent trips to the city have been about getting to see some of the sites in the other burroughs. Each has their own unique style once you are in them. If you don't explore them then you really are missing all of NYC.
I would not want to live there but a visit every couple of years is awesome.

New York is a shithole that smells like bourbon street on ash wednesday.
The whole city stinks of piss and old mop water.
I have never been more disappointed arriving at a destination.
When is the last time you were in New York? They've done a fantastic job of cleaning it up. One of the cleanest cities I've ever seen as of July. Huge difference in the last 10 years.

Such a horrible place, and yet you keep coming back.

New York is a hard place for a tourist to find out what's really happening as far as clubs, bars, restaurants and nightlife.
But If you know some people from New York and they can take you to the right places, it's a blast, especially if you're single.

New York is awesome. I'm assuming you want an urban destination.
I'd definitely check into Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, LA, San Diego, Seattle, and Vancouver if you've never been.

Went 2 years ago with my wife (she had a small study conference) and fricking loooooved it.
I just walked and walked and walked. It was awesome. There is so much energy on the streets at any time of day, I never felt out of place.
The 2 things that stood out - EVERYONE smoked and nobody wore hats
