Lol, I used to live in jackson and most of these people just googled jackson for you. It's a truly awful city. Go to walkers or shapelys for dinner. Broad street bakery has a good lunch and coffee. Stay away from Hal and Mals, fig and pig, Brent's drugs or whatever other horse shite suggestions are on this board

Well that wasn't all judgey and shite.

I've been to Keifers no fewer than 15 times and Cherokee 3 times. You shitting on my suggestions?

I am dumbfounded that people continuously recommend Keifer's for Greek food. There are so many better places, such as Aladdin, Mediterranean Fish Grill, and my current favorite Krilakis.

Walkers is consistant. Shapley's not so much. Shapley's is easily forgettable with all the new restaurants we have now.

yes, good sandwiches and king cake

Hal and Mals

They've got some decent stuff

fig and pig

Pig and Pint is the best BBQ going on right now. Very interesting twist on the sides too. I'm a fan.

Brent's drugs

Have you been since the renovation? How can you not like their burger? It's classic!

Back in the day when I was a student at Millsaps the blue plate at Cherokee for Thursday lunch was a weekly staple. Pot roast, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, drink...$5. The burger was good too. I remember before they moved to their current location we would drive to the old dive shack they were in north of Fondren.

Keifer's is one of my all time favorites. Who knows how many times I ate there...500? The best hummus I've ever had anywhere other than Greece itself. The souvlaki was great.

McB's way out by the Rez had a great burger as well.

I recommend it for the pita mozz and getting drunk. I don't recommend it as some authority on greek food.

Dipping a turkey pita mozz in that hummus is the bestest appetizer in the whole wide world.

eta: okay second best to Sammy's Cheese sticks dipped in their ranch dressing.

Well, I don't like this.

It will forever be where it was off Jefferson in my mind.

screw you. I've been to all these places and go to them on a regular basis.

Keifers is very good. Food tastes the same after thee move. Brents had issues for awhile. Has a new manager and he has kicked arse and taken names.

If you want better food for dinner:
1. Ticos.
2. ANjou
3. Shapleys.
4. Table 100 but I put this one behind the other 3.
5. Walkers in Fondren or 463 in Madison.
6. Did I mention Ticos?

Jap restaurants. Sushi and hibachi very underrated. Nagoya in Madison. Little Tokyo. Went to Ichiban's last night in Flowood for hibachi. Very good.

Italian:
Amerigos is good but nothing like Ginos.

Babalu:
Guacamole made at table, Barbaritas are half off on Mondays, steak on a stick is damn good.

Coffee: Cups on Lakeland Drive or in Fondren.
Bakery: Whole Foods. Better than Broad Street.

Lunch: Two Sisters. Period.

Hal and Mal's is good. Has a good burger too. Blues night starts at 7.

Alot of us like Keifers because its good AND we can sit outside on a day like today. Most popular outdoor eating in Jackson.

You speak truth good sir.

Cheers

Lemuria is my all time favorite book store due to my connection to it. Powell's in Portland would probably be tops if I did more than just the one visit.

Two Sisters for lunch was a weekly staple as well. Lots of great memories with my friends around lunch in that old house.

Bravo, Parker House, Amerigo's for fine dining.

And although it closed during my time there and became a new place called Julep, Old Town Deli will always be special. One of the best Reuben's ever along with eclairs and blintzes were in that place.

There was a great little French bistro called Bon Ami that was a great date spot.

Jackson has some great eats. We have all scattered to places like Atlanta, Memphis, New York, Nashville, Bay Area, Knoxville, etc but we still talk about all the great food we had in Jackson.

I think these places are overrated as well. Hal and Mals may be the most disappointing "treasures" of Jackson.

I'm sorry but Tico's is hands down the worst steakhouse I have ever been to in my life. The steaks are terrible the sides are terrible the place is just dirty and grimy feeling. The last time we went, we made res for the locker room for a dinner party. Thank God I went by there the night before because whoever we made the res with had completely forgot. I walked back there to the locker room and it was so gross and had clearly been used for a junk room for several months. I told them I would rather us just be in the main dining room so they didnt have to pick up their junk. Every thing I ordered was severly over salted and my steak came well done. Unacceptable.
I think people say Tico's and Keifer's because a long time ago that was the best this area had for greek or steak. So many better options now. Glad I didn't live here back then.

if I was Greek, I would be offended that they advertise themselves as a Greek Restaurant. You gotta do more than offer hummus and sandwiches on Pita bread, IMO.

I don't think it's the worst, but I do agree that it is not that great. I don't know why people talk it up so much. When I first came here it was the number one suggestion. I was very disappointed.

I like Amerigos. The food is pretty good, and it's my favorite bar. Laid back, nice, and everyone is really kind. I have made serious connections at that place. Right across the Reservoir, so it's not that far away from the house.

Hummus is not greek btw. I went there for my honeymoon and asked about it because I never saw any hummus. They laughed at me for asking. They have crushed fava bean dip which is sweeter than hummus.

ETA: Keifers is bamf, and so is Kristo's in madison.

A friend of mine hangs out at the amerigos bar fairly often.

I think Tico's is a nostalgic place for many people who grew up here, including mriluv. But after the last visit, he agrees there are better places now.
