Team one space. Unless you're using Courier font, which is horrible to read in the first place.

Correct. Courier (typewriter font) is monospaced typeset. It is literally the only reason two spaces after punctuation were used.

EDIT: OP, search and replace.

op's English teacher failed him early in life

plus, definitely helps you get closer to the stated goal when aforementioned teacher had you write an "x" number of pages

Or he keeps up with current accepted practices. Most publishers as well as the MLA Style Manual and Chicago Manual of Style disagree with all you double-spacers.

I predict that in ten years we will see italic print below email signatures that reads:

Please consider the environment before using two spaces after a period.

When you're writing a proposal ,and you have a page limit, that extra space can be as good as gold. One space.

For everything else, two spaces.

Old school is still 2 spaces.

If you're writing for a class, it is whatever your professor says it is.

I tell my students two.

I know that 2 spaces has become obsolete, but I've been doing it for so long that I can't stop myself. Never had a professor comment on it during grad school.

Two.

And:
quote:

<----Takes a break after editing a 700 page report from multiple authors.

Find: .__
Replace: ._
Where underlines are spaces. If that works it would only take about 5 seconds.

Eta: tried, it does work. Think of the time you could have saved.
