We aren't broke anymore. That was the media line after the housing market collapse. Years have gone by and our state budget is no longer as interesting for the media to comment. At a mandatory 1.5% yearly property tax on the nations most expensive property the revenues are pretty impressive. And a quick google search just informed me that this year alone we have a 4 billion dollar surplus....

California needs this wake up call. We dealt with it just fine in Nevada.

When my grandparents retired to prescott, az, their new neighborhood was on the side of a mountain. Very pretty, but h2o was scarce. So they did what 99% of the residents did- they landscaped according to the climate. That 1%- this old arse m fer who had a bermuda grass lawn that required insane amounts of water. His attitude (that he projected to whoever was close enough to hear) was "my money my grass"

He was definition old person yelling get off my grass. And quite frankly, it looked like shite.

Exactly! We won't run out but this needs to scare people into finding other options. The drought is cyclical. This problem isn't going away.

Living on borrowed time.

If the stock market shifts from gains to losses, Standard & Poor's said, the budget could be dramatically affected because about half of the state's revenue comes from the wealthiest 1% in California.

If only the 1% would pay their "fair share" think how great things would be... A liberal/progressive utopia.

Cades-you seem to be an expert here....why don't you educate me on all this support we get here from the rest of the country?

Why would I waste time with that? You've already made up your mind that CA is your Workers' Paradise. Or something. I wish you the best out there. Living out there just wouldn't be for me.

You don't want to waste your time, or you realized you were wrong?

Of course they don't but we're all bailing them out via Federal funds.

Are you trolling?

California is a next exporter of revenue to the federal government. Most of the southern states except Texas get more federal money than they pay out. If anything California is bailing your arse out. Moron.

Could not have articulated that better....I don't always love living out here and I will be the first to admit that it has it's fair share of problems but this hatred for a place you have never been is just strange. It would be like me wishing harm on some random city in La....arbitrary and senseless. Oh and I haven't ratted out neighbors but do think no one will care about the grass if potable water becomes scarce.

The hate for California is strong in here.....fortunately California gives not one frick what the other 49 states think of it.

Drove through that shithole last month.

Northern cali was a bit more livingston parishy than I expected. A lot more.

Actually livingston parish trailer park dwellers would likely feel unsettled by the amount of meth and cousin frixking going on up there.

The rest of the state was just poor or douchey.

The hard working mexicans were the only thing I saw of worth.

I've got about as much compassion for California's water problem (drought) as they do for our water problem in South Louisiana (Hurricanes).

That sucks that you didn't enjoy your trip. On the upside the far north has plenty of water. I actually prefer far south but I live a block off the water and don't have air conditioning because the weather is so mild....I guess I can't really bitch. Would sure love to see a thunderstorm though.

I would rat on my neighbors with a quickness never seen before. fricking annoys me when citizens of a certain area can't fall in line for the betterment of everyone involved.

It's a hard call though, you can't tell by looking if they have a gray water set up or if I have a family of 3 but they are just one person, who is wasting more? We don't fill up our kiddie pool or let our little girl play with the hose but I am sure we use more than a lot of single house holds here. I just try to worry more about what we do and less about my neighbors.
