Maybe one of the many smaller businesses could become the next fortune 500 given the right climate and opportunity.

Nah, not in this climate. BR is severely lacking in several aspects. Infrastructure is an abomination here.

All BS aside, O&G tanking ends up hurting more than it helps. I know cheap gas and such but businesses throughout SLA will suffer due to the truck nuts disappearing.

Tax base still means something.

How about accepting the fact that people in that industry get paid a premium due to the cyclical nature of the industry

They get paid premium because of being away from home half the year and working their arse off for 12 plus hours a day. If we cut taxes and took away welfare to lazy f*cks I'd be happy but I wouldn't be on here saying how I could buy a new truck because of how much I saved on my taxes.

Add that to the list why companies did not rush to Louisiana when we did everything financially to attract them.

Exactly. We were fools gold in the aftermath of Katrina up to 2014 or so. Sure, BR has more to do now than ever and the revitalization of 3rd street is in full bloom, but it pales in comparison to other cities the size of BR with more diversified economies....see Richmond, VA, Louisville, KY and Chattanooga.

economics is not your strong suit I see.....oilfield taxes go a long way in funding transportation infrastructure throughout the South.

get past the stereotypical F250 truck nut, unworthy, obnoxious crowd. beyond that is big business and public funding that leans on it.

And quite frankly, it's the state's fault for refusing/ being unwilling to diversify the economy to include industries other than oil field, casino, and service.

Are you kidding me? The state was one of the best environments for attracting new businesses.

Everything was done to lure new business here.

Not everything. We could have changed our tax and regulatory environments to be more like Texas or Utah. However, we have too many ppl that can't understand that the Louisiana way is the dumb way and that the sooner we abandon it the better.
