That reminds me of this website where you can scroll through a scaled version of the universe.

Great channel. Also that slider is a great tool to play with. Pretty crazy how small transistors have become to let me surf TD

cool video

but that guy is assuming we'll never find a way to get to another galaxy group. basically he's trying to predict the future.

Are you familiar with anthropic constants?

Sort of a religious link, but most of you need it.

quote:

Anthropic Constant 5: Gravity

If the gravitational force were altered by 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000001 percent, our sun would not exist, and, therefore neither would we. Talk about precision

He qualifies his explanation with "as we understand physics" today.

He's saying its physical impossible for us to reach those other galaxies. Its like saying you take the fastest man a live and have him run toward the a car traveling at 100 mph, no matter how hard he tries he'll never reach that vehicle. Also, there will come a point where the vehicle wont be seen because its moved to far ahead of him.
Maybe we figure out a way to teleport, but our understanding of science says we will never go beyond our neighboring galaxies.

quote:

Anthropic Constant 1: Oxygen Level On earth, oxygen comprises 21 percent of the atmosphere. That precise figure is an Anthropic Constant that makes life on earth possible. If oxygen were 25% fires would erupt spontaneously, if it were 15%, human beings would suffocate.

It's not like humans evolved and adapted to the oxygen levels that are present on Earth...

Anthropic Constant 5: Gravity If the gravitational force were altered by 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000001 percent, our sun would not exist, and, therefore neither would we. Talk about precision.

tell that to the life forms on other potential planets that don't exist because the number is just right for us.

edit: plants > planets

Infinite universes, infinite possibilities, infinite time scales, yada yada.

The crazy (and scary) thing is it's expanding at an exponential rate and we don't know why.

ETA: just watched the video and it covered exactly that.

If the speed of light is a variable and not a constant it may be possible to communicate with other solar systems.
