So according this "study", on the average a house in Lake Charles cost about $26k more than it does in San Antonio. That's crazy, I know where I would rather be.

How the heck does anyone making only $18,000 a year even afford a downpayment of any sort on a home?

That's funny, imagine the dump 188k buys you. Can't even get something nicer or appreciating anywhere on the east bank for that price. Not even sure you can get a condo at that price. Hell teardowns in cheaper areas of old Metairie are near 270k. Even the stuff west of severn that's getting bulldozed are around 200. There's 500k teardowns...

If I was going to spend that much on a house, with that salary, I'd do it in TX, LA, TN, etc.. That's a beautiful home in a great part of the city in Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, and Nashville. In SF, that's an average looking, small home if you want to be close to the center of the action.

You really can't make a statement like that.

I'm guessing there's a strong correlation between real estate values and salaries. The higher property values are supported by higher median incomes. Plus, $200k+/year jobs don't just grow on trees.

Nashville is probably more like 300-350 for a HPR attached in the city where you won't get HONKYLIPS spray painted on your car.

Single family you're closer to 400k.

I've got a client looking for a 4 bed 2500 minimum sq ft in Hillsboro Village with a 1M budget and there is nothing they can find. Putting a 3000 ft2 on the market in Franklin tomorrow for 800k.
