My grandson 13 plays and I think he’s getting burnt out. I told him that he could quit but I don’t think he wants to disappoint anyone. I told him he wouldn’t. I think I’m burnt out. It’s a lot … too much

My step son feels the same way, I think, but with travel hockey

You can't say it's all made up then say your son never played fall ball. There are plenty teams out there playing 10-12 months. My 8yr old has kids in his 3rd grade class that take a winter break in December then start back up the first week of January. At 8U.

What percentage?

I have an 8 year old that plays tournament ball. All of his friends play on various tournament ball teams. I would put the percentage of teams that play a fall schedule at around 5% and it tends to be the teams from small towns that don’t have a ton of other options.

It's also what amount, there are teams around us that practice for 10+ hours a week. Some practice 3. That's a big difference.

yes, it was such glorious times when my kids went into a recreational draft and i had no control over which daddy and psycho mother was going to be my kid's coach

Damn bro, if you’re so concerned abt who is coaching your kid, you should volunteer to coach him. I made the mistake of agreeing to be an assistant coach for my daughter’s t-ball team, and got stuck being the only coach. Well except for all the dads who told me how to do it correctly.

My first baseball coach went out to the mound and slapped his 12 y/o kid in the middle of a game. Never touched me, but treated his own kids like shite. I refused to play for my own dad after that.

We aren’t supposed to care about the quality of coaches our kids play and learn the game from now?

Most of south Louisianans think young Brayden is gonna make it to the pro level and his mom won’t have to work anymore and dad thinks about who is Brayden’s real dad.

Problem is the boy can’t hit a splitter and cries after whiffing a real breaking ball. Console him all you want but hes dead to most of you real fathers if you are honest

you realize nicholls is D1 right? you do understand how good you have to be to play at a school like that right?

Do you think it would be better for your kid to choose a college based upon where he can play baseball or what school fits his academic aspirations, with the assumption that he’s only getting looks from lower end D1 schools like Nicholls?

There’s this big sports facility just outside of Wichita. Tons of baseball fields. I passed by one day and there was a billboard up from a local bank for “youth sports loans.”

That’s when I knew without a doubt we’ve jumped the shark.

Meanwhile, teaching your kid to show up early and not lie will get him farther in his career than anything else. But drop $20k a year on travel ball to teach them lessons your grandparents taught you for a tuna sandwich.

What if he gets a full, or even a partial scholarship plus a meal plan out of it?

I’m NOT saying college scholarships are or should be the goal of 14u and younger sports, but what if playing this sport allows his son (or daughter) to go to college debt free?

Other than the very serious teams, most teams I have seen take a break from mid June to mid-September. The fall may be a few tournaments and practice once a week, but not every week because of football. Now dont get me wrong, there are teams who are playing every weekend in the fall.

Why do the anti-travel ball people always insist on using the absolute extreme end of the spectrum to take shots at it?

I mean that as a genuine question, I’m not even talking shite. About 80% of yall use the most absurd, extreme examples and act like that’s how everyone does it. It’s absolutely insane. It’s almost like it’s something more than just making your point in an argument. It’s almost like you have a personal vendetta against it. It’s so weird to me

This is a great point.

Practice is where kids get better with rep after rep. Not games.

Also, and more importantly, I want my kids to play all the sports they enjoy. The misconception by a parent that sports will be a career is the dumbest thing ever.

I played a lot of select / travel ball after little league in Houston.

Honestly, all the really good kids at the ages between little league and high school are just the kids that hit puberty earlier.

The odds are HEAVILY stacked that he won’t. But I’d prefer to pay for a quality school vs my son going to a lesser quality (no offense as I respect Nicholls) Nicholls level just to toil away at baseball. My niece did this with softball here in Texas and really regrets it. Say what you want by St Mary’s just doesn’t hit like A&M or UT in an interview or resume to a lot of people hiring

ETA how many of you baws were up till midnight trying to grab the latest Combat release lol

Because it’s easy to find those examples.
