Which will happen if you let the kid control his own finances. It's a paradox, because that cuts against the grain of him "taking adult responsibilities." But otherwise MIL, and probably other relatives/hangers on will see this as a meal ticket for the forseeable future.

Might be solid advice. In today's world a baby isn't enough reason to get married. Marriage doesn't automatically make a difficult situation better. It just raises the stakes.
