Ask them to say the word "lieutenant."

Have a well-bred Brit woman say the word "condom". It is positively Pavlovian: it will make Junior stand up and take notice that he is fixing to come into the game.

China and Russia don't need a navy. They are able to defend themselves based on numbers and sheer landmass

Its all about logistics, they don't have the means to move troops so all the fear mongering people do about these countries invading the US one day is silly.

Almost, but my model still has a strong standing Navy.

America needs to keep a strong Navy and severely reduce the size of the active duty Army and Air Force.

And the only way to do that is with boots on the ground.

How do those boots get from A-B

That is quite the mental leap

No....it really isn't.

It doesn't have to be America....but not having a more or less benevolent country being incredibly militarily dominant means every decently set up country is one leader away from making a world play.

Further, if a war breaks out that requires you to "invade" some place, it's far easier and takes less time to raise and army and train it then to build warships/war planes and train their crews.

I agree somewhat with you sentiment, but this is a recipe to get a LOT of people killed if something does happen.

All about logistics

Thats why when it comes down to it we can crush China and Russia. But invading either would be stupid.

It looks like they've included Gator Freigters as aircraft carriers.

If we were being shot at on our patrol from a building, guess what? We brought the damn building down.

That's how you do things. Read about how we handled such things during WW2. Sniper in a building? No problem. Call in the artillery.

But god forbid anyone suggest cutting the budget.

I agree, we should take that money and spend it on programs like EBT and welfare.

We are moving to a Mercenary Military Force. Since ending the draft we have been increasingly using Contract Services for a variety of forces.

Having worn out our military ground forces with multiple combat tours it is the next logical step to increase Contract Services.

It is a business Americans may finally be tired of providing the blood, children, necessary to keep this industry functioning.

Unless all American's, politicians and citizens alike, are personally connected to wars we involve ourselves in, a permanent Merc force is inevitable as I see it.

We have lost our way since Kennedy's Assassination, which in my opinion was a Coup.

These numbers weren't always this lopsided. For a long time (Cold War Era) Russia had the worlds largest navy but a lot of their boats were dry docked because of parts and the cost to operate (especially towards the end of the Cold War). We tried (quite successfully) to keep up with them in terms of sheer numbers and finally caught & passed them. The problem with this is we won't reverse course and downsize our fleet despite the fact that we probably don't need a navy this size.
