We need to double the size of our navy and cut the army back by at least 50 percent.

No matter how fancy the Air Force and navy get, they will never be able to overcome the fact that to win a war you've got to seize and hold land. And the only way to do that is with boots on the ground.

Certainly, but if your opponents never reach your shores, then you don't need a large standing army.

Further, if a war breaks out that requires you to "invade" some place, it's far easier and takes less time to raise and army and train it then to build warships/war planes and train their crews.

A large standing army is why we get involved in shite holes like Iraq and Vietnam because politicians want to play soldier with someone else's kids.

Are you suggesting a system whereby the 'standing army' is whoever is enlisted now and undergoing training, serving their four years or whatever, and a much larger reserve component that is better trained/ready than the current reserves?

I'm talking no "standing army" but a very well trained and equipped national guard.

Yep. Those are full blown carriers as far as the rest of the world is concerned.

lol

I believe in the dominance of the air craft carrier.

No one fricks with us because no one can reach us...and I want it to stay that way.

Or you could bomb the shite out of them and kill everyone there. It may sound harsh but if it saves even one American life I am all for it.

One of the reasons I think people overestimate other countries' abilities to match us in conventional warfare

Dominate navy, modern aircraft, more money (even with the cuts), better intel, and strategic bases all around the world (huge advantage)
