Avenged Sevenfold? Really?
I get what the study is about, but go ahead and pick up a guitar and see what level that is. Those frickers have written some complex songs.

The folks who came up with this "study" compared apples to natural plant by-products that have mind altering affects. Kiddie pop vs decades old pop. they should be comparing shite like the Beach Boys and whatever mass produced shite of that era.
You know who I didn't see in the long list of yesteryear's literary guard, Lionel Ritchie, Ray Charles, Bob Marley, Jhonny Cash etc..

When you write sales messages they should be no higher than 8th grade level. Doesn't surprise me that music is 3rd grade level.

Where does tool rank?
Very few songs that don't exhibit high intelligence.
"Wear the grudge like a crown of negativity.
Calculate what we will or will not tolerate.
Desperate to control all and everything.
Unable to forgive your scarlet lettermen.
Clutch it like a cornerstone. Otherwise it all comes down.
Justify denials and grip 'em to the lonesome end.
Clutch it like a cornerstone. Otherwise it all comes down.
Terrified of being wrong. Ultimatum prison cell.
Saturn ascends, choose one or ten. Hang on or be humbled again.

RUSH LYRICS
"Xanadu"
'To seek the sacred river Alph
To walk the caves of ice
To break my fast on honeydew
And drink the milk of Paradise...'
I had heard the whispered tales of immortality
The deepest mystery
From an ancient book I took a clue
I scaled the frozen mountain tops of eastern lands unknown
Time and Man alone
Searching for the lost Xanadu
Xanadu...
To stand within the Pleasure Dome
Decreed by Kubla Khan
To taste anew the fruits of life
The last immortal man
To find the sacred river Alph
To walk the caves of ice
Oh, I will dine on honeydew
And drink the milk of Paradise
A thousand years have come and gone but time has passed me by
Stars stopped in the sky
Frozen in an everlasting view
Waiting for the world to end, weary of the night
Praying for the light
Prison of the lost
Xanadu
Xanadu...
Held within the Pleasure Dome
Decreed by Kubla Khan
To taste my bitter triumph
As a mad immortal man
Nevermore shall I return
Escape these caves of ice
For I have dined on honeydew
And drunk the milk of Paradise

I'm so glad you came
I'm so glad you remembered
To see how we're ending
Our last dance together
Expectant, too punctual
But prettier than ever
I really believe that this time it's forever
But older than me now
More constant, more real
And the fur and the mouth and the innocence
Turned to hair and contentment
That hangs in abasement
A woman now standing where once
There was only a girl
I'm so glad you came
I'm so glad you remembered
The walking through walls
In the heart of December
The blindness of happiness
Of falling down laughing
And I really believed
That this time was forever
But Christmas falls late now
Flatter and colder
And never as bright as
When we used to fall
All this in an instant
Before I can kiss you
A woman now standing
Where once there was only a girl
I'm so glad you came
I'm so glad you remembered
To see how we're ending
Our last dance together
Reluctantly, cautiously
But prettier than ever
I really believe that this time it's forever
But Christmas falls late now
Flatter and colder
And never as bright as
When we used to fall
And even if we drink
I don't think we would kiss
In the way that we did
When the woman was only a girl
I'm so glad you remembered
To see how we're ending
Our last dance together
Expectant, too punctual
But prettier than ever
I really believe that this time it's forever
