See those go completely against what I have pictured in my head. The others, too, but those two are just like brain teasers.

Yeah, until you look at it on a globe, the Maine one will blow your mind.

There's no way Maine is closer to Africa than Miami...

I know this is true, is it because how modern maps are drawn that it looks like it is 3 times the distance from Maine to Africa than Maine to Florida?

It has to do with taking a spherical object and putting it to a flat surface. It's skews the distances.

I enjoy these sort of things. I love geography and what some would call useless information.

Yeah, it's kind of hard to think Rome is roughly the same latitude as the lower latitudes of Canada

The Gulf Stream and other factors account for Europe's milder climate. For you climate change deniers, a disruption of just a few degrees could usher in a new Ice Age in much of Europe.

There are 5 parishes in Louisiana with a land area greater than the state of Rhode Island.

Crazy, huh?

Not really, in fact I think there is an entire field of science dedicated to it. I believe it is called geology.

i originally read this as the distance from maine to florida > the distance from maine to africa, which isn't even close to correct.

If you go due south of New Orleans, you would not touch South America.

SA is completely east of say NO.
