I know we all like to hammer them for the woke BS that they try to push, but I have to think when they started paying 50 people to give their "expert" opinions on each sport, this was the start of their downfall. Everything is just so over the top and overproduced now it is ridiculous.

It was probably airing on ESPNNews, or ESPN Deportes, or ESPN 8: The Ocho! Or one of the other 10,000 extra channels they didn't need to spend money on developing.

When they were purchased by Disney.

Disney is the vehicle activists have used to destroy everything Disney has touched.

And while I am venting, can we please get rid of the ticker at the bottom? In the age of smartphones, this really isn't necessary.

To make the problem worse, these 50 people would try to out-woke each other. Many times I see the TVs on in the gym, and the only topics they are covering are those they can create a mess with. Frick ESPN.

Mainly a result of people ditching cable and going to streaming. ESPN had guaranteed reoccurring revenue because customers couldn’t pay for only what they wanted with cable. As those customers left their revenue plunged.

I think it started when they started injecting women onto every panel

Streaming will replace cable. Steaming was once a cheaper option. Now that it’s the more becoming mainstream, it’ll be just as expensive. Nothing makes sense.

Internet, YouTube and the widespread availability of on demand sports news and highlights killed their traditional product, so they had to evolve towards the sports talk and hot take model.

I think their main issue is they won the bid on a historically bad NBA contract.

The woke shite is annoying but it doesn't make a dent in their bottom line.

The downfall of ESPN (An Opinion)

Honestly, when sports reporting became strip mall level standup. Yeah, Dan Patrick and Keith Olberman were great at it, but the fact they could do it well didn't mean EVERYONE had to do exactly that. The trickledown effect was incredible. ESPN went from fairly basic sports highlights to anchors trying to one up each other with quips and everything became a joke.

Then add a metric shite ton of debate shows with 6 idiots yelling at each other and the channel became unwatchable outside live events.

The political garbage happened long after I stopped watching.

Or at least simplify it. I know during college football season I like to check it out to see scores of other games on that day. But the way they do it now, they’ll show the score of a game then spend the next five minutes slowly giving a detailed breakdown of that game complete with all sorts of stats. The crawl is for a quick glance at scores, not detailed breakdown of each game.

Their downfall was when they started owning college football and other sports and became bias to pumping up their own programming vs sports in general.

I am sure that wokeness is a big part, but to be honest...

Since the advent of the iPhone, I haven't had much need to tune into some looping sports update show to get scores and highlights.

I legit can't recall the last time I ever watched ESPN or any variant outside of a live sporting event.

I mean, if I want to watch a replay of the 1938 Army-Navy game, I can just google it. I don't have to check my program guide.

This. They grossly overpaid for it and spend most of their TV and radio time promoting the shite out of it as a result.

Yeah having an Asian woman as your head nfl analyst isn’t exactly the smartest move.

Well, with the changes in scoring they probably thought it would help with the math

And allowing Beth Mowins into the booth to call games. She’s just terrible.

That's one good thing about using the streaming app... you can get the latest SC whenever you want.

The downfall of ESPN started when they thought they were a real news station and had to report on the OJ trial.
