At the age of 57, not even one of your friends, in your group, has never smoked weed? I can probably count on one hand the number of people I know who has never smoked weed.. Well, I guess it would depend on what range we are talking about in terms of "knowing people", but in HS & college, it was just as common as drinking.
Have you ever smoked a cigarette? I have not, I have never seen the point in it, but I have smoked.. well you know.
What I am referring to goes well beyond weed. With that said, why would you think weed is so much more extreme than alcohol?

At some point in your life, most of the addicts you know either frick up (and die), or get clean. The exceptions are few and far between.
Pretty much this.. I did my fair share growing up but now it's more of a once every year or two thing on a special occasion. The guys I did dope with are either straight, like me or dead.

Because of the age that I'm at it has become more apparent that some of the people I know who are still drinking heavily have a legitimate problem and aren't just kids having fun anymore. I don't really associate with anyone, that I know of at least, who are heavy drug users. That passed since I'm not in the experimention phase myself anymore.

One of my best friends from youth got hooked on Oxy.
He would tell me how he had kicked them on his own while scratching his skin all over like he had rolled in poison ivy. He finally got popped buying them in Shreveport and last I heard he had straightened up.
He drove me crazy with that freaking scratching

There a couple guys in my neighborhood that had good jobs....decent family life and they threw it all away on marijuana.

Im never surprised when I hear of a couple having marital problems because the wife is addicted to pain killers.
Over the past few years ive seen some very successful people ruin their lives due to addictions such as alcohol, drugs, or gambling

There needs to be a complete overhaul in prescription drugs and pain management.
Why? Arrests are up, prison population is up, cash seizures are up, addicts are increasing- it's a good day to be in the war on drugs. Business is booming. I doubt you'll find anyone in law enforcement that wants to change any of the drug laws.

If there's anything I have learned in life, it's that you have no idea what people do behind closed doors.
