I know a few casual users but no addicts.

I know plenty of alcoholics.

Related by marriage to a drug addict. He's under 25 and he's been to rehab at least 8 different times that I can count and know of (could be more). A lot of them have been nice out of state rehabs in places like Miami and Arizona. His mom has paid for all of it bc he's completely worthless. He goes, stays clean for 6-11 months (never makes it one year), then back to rehab he goes. He always gets a job when he's clean, then blows through all of his money and sells most of what he has when he starts to binge again. He's stolen from my family, including blank checks he wrote himself. Even stolen from his own grandmother.

From my experience with him and other similar experiences, I think drug addicts are worthless and should be given up on after one stint in rehab doesn't work. If they can't commit to being clean after going to rehab, they won't get clean after the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc times

They will get clean if they aren't enabled by soft women.

From what I have seen, it has actually been going down. Maybe everyone I know grew out of it (myself and probably 5 family members have been to in-patient rehab), but I just haven't heard about it that much in my circles

It is very possible none of your close friends are addicts but unlikely that nobody you know is.

Addicts by necessity become experts at lying and deception. I know of several educated professional couples where one spouse was addicted to prescription drugs for years and the other only found out when they could no longer find a source for the drugs.

My sister was the one who had severe addiction problems. I have them too, and realized it early because of her problems. Coke could've fricked me up when I was in high school in Florida. Stimulants grab a hold of me. It was everywhere, strong, and cheap. But I tried it, and knew to stay away.

I decided to keep it to fun, happy drugs. Pretty much just weed and booze, and maybe some psychedelics or mdma on special occasions. I still think everyone should eat a gram of good mushrooms at least once in their life, preferably outdoors with good friends.

The prescription monitoring has shut down almost all the doctor shopping. Suboxone is huge. It's saving lives.

but lets say over the past five years.. has the number of people you know, who are drug addicts, increased?

It's been this way,but every few to several years the popular drug will change to something else.

It's pretty easy to figure out when someone is completely fricked up at 10am every time you see them

Increased education and awareness leads to less addiction taboo which leads to more open addicts

My wife told one of these people that it was hard to believe she was addicted to pain killers since she had never seen here when she thought she was high or messed up, the friend replied "no, you have never seen me straight."

I guess it can be hard for some people to see, but it is never for me. Maybe that's because I've seen it and been through it, but it is pretty easy to recognize if you know what you're looking at
