It's definitely different strokes for different folks. A lot of people agree with you and a lot of people agree with me. To each his own.

agreed, tbh, I'd get my girl a fake stone for her engagement ring if she wasn't smart enough to be able to be able to tell the difference

Don't get me wrong, once I could afford to, I'd switch the stone out for the real thing, but a really nice engagement ring won't exactly be something I can really afford during my first year out of college. I'd rather be saving up for a starter home or building up investments.

Getting married the first year out of college is a bad idea anyway, trust me.

Oh well yea if you are spending money you don't have (ie taking out a loan for a ring) then you're an idiot. I was 3 years out of college and had saved a lot.

I'll be saving up for it. I'd just rather be putting that money towards savings and earning interest on it. I wouldn't be getting married for more than a year after I graduate (my SO's a year behind me). We've already been dating for 3 years.

I got ya. I'm an engineer and worked offshore for over a year when I graduated so I was able to save like you wouldn't believe. If you buy what you can afford she will love it and so will you.

Engagement threads are always the longest threads. Getting engaged is so gay.
