The Advocate V Warden Cain. Is there a backstory to this?

Anyone know why the Baton Rouge Advocate has such a hard on for this guy?

I've been out of Baton Rouge for 10+ years, but still read the paper regularly. I've never seen them go after someone so persistently. Do they just think they have found their Pulitzer or is there something more behind it?

Cain has always believed in old school justice within the prison. The liberal media has always had a problem with that.

This. He stands for everything they hate as liberals but the state has always put up with him because he does something no one else has wanted to do. Namely, keep the really bad people at bay in Angola. He literally ran his own little kingdom there for years. But he finally pulled something that no one could ignore and the Advocate was all over it.

Cain and Arpaio should open a joint venture prison.

He hates moving out. He stayed in the Jackson warden's house for eleven years after eaving that job, displacing Jackson's warden, then he had a 4,000 sq ft house built for himself at Angola, but it only cost $150k because he used free labor.

He retired from Angola but still lives in the house.

I don't know shite about him except he looks like a character Phillip Seymour Hoffman would have played in an Oscar nominated prison movie

They're trying to rid all of his family ties still in the correctional system as well.

Burl is a good man. I know him somewhat well from family. I've also known a guard or 2 that says he treats his employees and the prisoners very well. Burl came out and did interviews even after being advised not to b/c he wanted the taxpayers to hear his side of the story. He didn't run from any questions asked and he truly feels he did no wrong. The man is getting up there in age, it was time for him to step down.

Isn't the new owner of the Advocate the one that ran or was going to run for governor.

I'm sure there is a history there and since he couldn't take down Burl Cain, now he's after the son.

Funny that the Advocate is called Liberal media when it's owned by a guy who is a Conservative.

Interesting. I knew Burl was contemplating running for governor but he wanted to see how the polls looked first. I don't think he felt he would have a chance but did consider it.

He's shady AF and they know there is a story there.

More people than just the Advocate are looking into Cain.

He runs a prison. He may as well be a republican as far as the Advocate is concerned. All of his unethical conduct and even much of his good behavior will be criticized.
