I checked into getting audio books from the local library and they were missing the majority of the ones I was looking for.
I did not check their e-book selection however.

are yall just so conservative that you wouldn't consider using a free service that offers ebooks to you? that you pay taxes to support.
the local library?

I'm reading "Scar Tissue" right now in hardback. It's an autobiography about Anthony Keidis. Lead singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
It's absolutely insane.
Opening chapter, first line, is something like "So I was shooting cocaine in Mexico City with my Mexican drug dealer.."
paraphrasing...but this sums up the book. Dude's life was insane. Grew up around Sonny and Cher, dad was a drug dealer and used Anthony to help mule drugs when he was like 11. etc etc
just out of this world and a great, and easy, read.
eta I derailed it with my summary here, but figured I'd share

Also a trip to the bookstore is something I really enjoy
Me, too. And there is no quicker way to separate me from my money than a trip to the bookstore.

what about having access to your books anywhere?
i have so many damn devices a cloud-based solution seems logical.
i want to have my books..bookmark in place, etc. regardless of whether i'm reading it on my desktop at work, my work laptop, my personal laptop, my wife's ipad or my android phone.
so a cross-platform/cloud-based reader seems like something to go with.
i guess thats why google books is so popular..you can read them anywhere.

if you keep your books in a cloud kindle will sync them to any device

I prefer having the actual book, but if it's an old book that's impossible to buy a copy of I get on Kindle.

assuming you have a pc-based kindle app..an android based kindle app..an iOS based kindle app and/or a kindle device?
i heard amazon would routinely 'sweep' the kindle app for 'non-authorized' ebooks..do they still do that?
i want the cloud..but i don't want big brother randomly deleting my shite either.

No kindle for me. Not now, not ever
Posted on 8/19/14 at 2:05 pm to CAD703X
they have kindle for both pc and mac. I use them both. I don't use iclooud for anything but the locator feature, I have trust issues. I'm usually reading different books on each laptop and don't worry about syncing. The may sync in your home network. Ad I'm sure Amazon still checks
eta
won't sync over home network
