Thanks Direct TV!!!

4 Years ago we move to IL. I get a bundle deal that includes direct tv. (Always had cable before). The bundle dissolves in 6 months because the phone/DSL company Verizon gets bought by Frontier. Now I am paying two bills a month.
To make the initial install the direct TV guy has to bust into my basement wall to attach the incoming Sat line. (No problem, I have to have TV right?)
Now we want the Genie and upgrades (4 years later). We pay on average $180 a month for Direct TV and $120 for phone. The installer comes out (Same one as 4 years ago) and says the dish needs to be moved so it can be grounded to our meter and he will need to bust a hole again in my sheetrock. I tell him to take a hike. All I wanted was new receivers and he now says he has to redo the whole job due to new rules.
I am ready to bolt to Dish or Comcast but then find out only Direct TV has Sunday Ticket. My wife cant do without Saints on Sunday and I don't blame her.
I complain to Direct about this and threaten to walk. They are like... "Ok, you have to do what you want to do". I suspect they know Sunday ticket has us anchored. I hate this... Bastards.
I have to have the idiots move the dish and bust more holes in my walls or walk and spend Sundays at BWW's... (7 Sundays- Saints are on network 9 weeks here). I am inclined to use the price difference of $500 a year for BWW's money. What say you in OT world?

I have no input for you. However, when AT&T came to my house...the installer did a fricking horrible job. I was in his grill the whole time.
He was putting holes WAY to big for cable, through the brick and foundation.

You pay $120 a month for your phone and need to have DirecTv so your wife can watch football? What kind of fricked up household do you have?

ask a friend with Direct Tv to split the cost with you on Sunday Ticket and stream it to your laptop and connect to your TV with HDMI cable. Then use whatever other service you want.

Cut the cord, ditch directv/cable and get yourself a slingbox.
Send it to a buddy or family member that lives in Louisiana and stream the local market games live and in HD via a laptop or tablet with HDMI to your TV
I have a buddy that has LUS Fiber tv in Lafayette that let me install a slingbox at his house. I use it for Saints and LSU games that I cant catch here in PA.
A $150 investment, saves me over $120/mo that I used to spent on DirecTV

It's a bad time of year to be trying to leave, with the NFL season upon us.
The way most people get Direct to cave is to get to the retention level at the call center. Ask to talk to their supervisor and be prepared to leave.
Otherwise... If your wife can figure out an alternate way to watch the Saints for a while, Direct will come back to you with offers once you've been gone for 30 days.
Then after so long (90 days?) you'll be considered a new customer and can get the best deals they offer.
Plan B: Keep Direct through the NFL season with their cheapest package, add Dish or whoever immediately, then cancel Direct after Saints season.
There were multiple threads before SEC Network launched about people squeezing Direct and others for great deals. There should be a stickied thread where everyone can compare notes for future reference.

Sounds like you care too much about football

Be careful, all we did was upgrade our box and add a new one and our contract was extended two more years, which ended up costing us a lot of money when we moved.
We cut the directTV/cable cord and it's great. I recommend just buying a basic cable or satellite package but no contract and drop it after football season.

We'll if the technology has changed and they need to install it differently I'm not really understanding why you're mad.

Call DirecTV. Ask for customer service and then ask to go to the Retention Dept. Explain that you want the NFL ticket but find that the $180 bill is too expensive with the Sunday Ticket. Also explain that the updated dish is going to cause problems with your home that you just arent sure about keeping and you are thinking of leaving. Be nice on the phone. That is key.
I have had DirecTV for 13 years now and even after that, I get free Sunday Ticket either straight away or get deep discounts to cover the cost of Sunday Ticket by simply calling the Retention Dept every 12 months. I am under contract and just recently rec'd $330 in credits over 12 months plus Free Sunday Ticket by slightly, but nicely, complaining about the pricing. Loyalty gets rewarded but talk about reducing your service, hardships, etc. And to reiterate once more, be nice. It helps.
Good luck.

They should be the ones thanking you. I have damn near every channel and only pay ~$95/month.
What's a phone bill?

If only reason u need Sun Ticket is to see 1 team and u have fsmily in that market then go the slingbox route and dump DTV like the other poster mentioned.

You don't have to be a DirecTV subscriber to get Sunday Ticket these days, bro.
