Having played both schools in sports, I find the Teurlings parents to be more down to earth.

I think the private Lafayette schools are as follows:
1a. Ascension
1b. ESA
2. Teurlings
3. STM
On what metrics?

I dont have any misguided dreams of my kids going pro or even getting a scholarship. I think the values and life lessons you learn by competing in team sports are important. Also they can learn how to win at an early age. You need to win in all areas of life and learning what all it takes to win in sports can help them learn to win everywhere else.
I see but why a “top” program? Can’t learn those skills at any school?

Education and learning environment. Simply said, where would I send my kids?

ESA is very competitive in sports with nearly 100 State Championships ... might want to read the link
Nearly 80 percent of our students play sports, and many join more than one team

Sending a couple kids to STM is going to run you $20k/ year
I don't think STM tuition is that much higher than Teurlings/Notre Dame/ CHNI

I've seen plenty parents let their "kid" make the decision...It has almost always played out bad. Especially with kids wanting to follow their friends.
As parents we know what's best for our kids, they can't figure out if they want tater tots or fries at sonic....they shouldn't be making big decisions at 14 years old.

if this is your attitude, one of the two schools you are contemplating did the following.
They were playing football against a school from one the more rural areas, the opposing team was grotesquely outmatched...like 30-40 kids on the team at most.
Well, one school (that you're looking at) had scored 63 but had a chance to score a school record by running it up on the opposition...and I mean calling a T.O. with 10 seconds remaining, and having kept starters in to get there run it up.
To be fair, the other school you are looking at may never win a state championship with their current philosophy.
Sounds like you understand what you can teach kids through sports...that's not what I would have wanted to teach my kid...and all those coaches are still there.

AES $17,000
TC $8,000
STM $9,000
FWIW: my daughter recently graduated from Westminster, tuition $8,500
Newman $27,000
my HS alma mater - St. Martin's Episcopal $24,000, tuition was $5,500 in 1986

Tack on another $1000 to ESA if your kid rides the bus.

Lafayette isn't BR or NOLA. You can send your kids to get a public school edumacation. Live in the school zone of your choice, and then go spend some tuition money at St. Michaels off of HWY 90 in Broussard.
Unless religion truly is a factor in your kids' education.
