French actually had more and better tanks in WWII. Their doctrine was woefully inferior as they didn't under stand mobile warfare. Its where you hit, not how hardd you can hit, that counts

I read "carry weapons at all times" to mean carry when off duty.

In the US cops usually carry a something like a G23 and a BUG like a G42 at the same time 100% of the time off duty.

All of this conjecture can be fun sometimes, but it's kind of sad to think that we'll never know what truly happened during WW2.

Wat?

Nothing in the post you replied to was conjecture. They built their defense from a German attack assuming a direct assault and poured resources into that, to the detriment of their more mobile and versatile armed forces.

Those are facts.

Someone here long ago posted an animated gif of Europe and I thunk Mid East. It showed land ownerships and burger changes over a very long time. France held its own better than most.

They lost pretty much an entire generation in WW1.

For all the "we bailed France out of WW1" talk, it's like people didn't realize that France held the floodgates closed till the US entered. They basically took it on the chin from Ali for years and didn't throw in the towel and didn't give up the Western front.

France (England close behind) is a country that has let the Liberal PC crowd rule for decades. This is a direct result. They let Muslims form their own extremist communities & allowed to practice their "sharia" law without having to assimilate at all to French culture.
Anyone notice the beginning of the announcement: law enforcement told to carry weapons at all times" now!?!!? WTF! That's right, police officers usually only carry a fracking billy club. Apparently the officers that reported initially to the newspaper massacre arrived on their.....BICYCLES!! What a joke that country has become. US better watch out...same thing could happen here.

Please research French law enforcement before spitting out ignorant information. The National Police and Gendarmerie are armed on duty, full-time. The only police unarmed in France are the municipal departments and even then some of those are armed full-time and the rest can, by order of the mayor, be armed.

So their battle doctrine was to hold the line till someone else could win the war?
