2014 Subaru Outback with the CVT.

2007 Silverado 5.3L 4x4 with the heavy towing package (L80 I think)

I'd guess the Subaru is the more expensive of the two. I haven't had any issues with either but I am curious about the CVT.

Transmissions in most full sized trucks and SUVs are bound to be the weak points- particularly ones that regularly tow heavy trailers without vigilant maintenance or are driven by unsupervised teenagers for any length of time.

Look on the bright side, at least you're not dealing with earthmoving equipment. Last week I gave a customer an estimate that came in at just over $40,000.00 to rebuild their tranny.

Well I got a three year 100k mile warranty on the transmission

I'm sure I pay more for going to that shop. It's like the target of mechanic shops and you probably work at Walmart

3 year warranty is my stock warranty. I go up to lifetime.

that must be the labor to remove and install. Anyway 1900-2400 is your average rebuild price out the door with 3 year unlimited mile warranty.

My brother is a Scout fanatic and he's driving the 1979 that he just purchased to Tennessee next weekend to get an engine swap done plus a whole lot of other stuff. New engine will have an insane amount of torque.
