Hey all,
Long time lurker on the page. Just got married about 2 months ago and the wife and I are looking to move into the Santa Maria neighborhood.
Any thoughts?
She works at Perkins Rowe at 8:00am each day and I work in Gonzales. Any ideas whether traffic would be a nightmare?

traffic is a nightmare if you live anywhere within a 10 mile radius of BR

There goes the neighborhood.

As someone else stated, pics of wife are crucial.

Nice. Very nice. Almost bought there.

Traffic is a clusterfrick. Perkins stacks up fromn Highland all the way to Bluff Road in the AM. Won't get any better until they put an interchange at Bluff Road.

It will be, unless you work weird hours.

During school Old Perkins is backed up from Bluff Rd to the light at highland. It does move fairly quick though

It's better than the Pinta neighborhood, but not as nice as the Nina neighborhood.

The houses at Santa Maria are lightning rods. Seems like one is struck yearly by lightning and catches on fire.

I know this has been discussed a million times here but who built that gigantic mansion across from Santa Maria?

just think about this

there is one way in and one way out. Crossing over that one way in/out is a train track. Do you have any idea what they carry on the tracks in south La?

I would basically make a similar drive as you wife and it's not all that bad if you can leave before 7:00 AM. Traffic isn't all that bad in the summer because school is out, but once the school year is in swing you're pretty much going to be angry on any commute during rush hours.

If you plan on having kids, go about a half mile further down Old Perkins, cross over Bayou Manchac, and get into Ascension Parish.
Otherwise, plan on paying for private schools for a decent education in East Baton Rouge Parish.

I live in that same area, just in AP. When school is out, I get to my office on Siegen in 15 minutes. Add another 10 for Bluebonnet.
When school is in, she can expect a solid 40 minute drive. 25 minutes of that will be sitting on Old Perkins Road.

Thanks alot for the great response! Really really appreciate it. We're looking hard at AP as well. I'm leaning more AP and she adores Santa Maria.

The Nina, the Pinta, the Santa Maria!
I'll do you in the bottom while you're drinking sangria!
